Best way to drill leather?
Fitting a new leather interior and need to drill some fixing holes through it.
I am worried about drilling it in case the drill bit catches the leather and pulls it. I can't use a punch as the way it is made a punch probably will damage the GRP underneath. Does anyone have any bright ideas? |
how about a medical punch? something like this:

Without seeing the application and knowing the size of hole/s you're creating, it is difficult to advise but a slow spiral drill will be less likely to snatch I would think and it is also good for drilling plastic/fibreglass afterwards... Could you not just abrade a hole in the leather with a Dremmel and suitable cutting tool like a burr? Also, you could always use an old fashioned hand drill for more control but then you would have no hands to keep the leather flat and tight whilst drilling. |
How about one of these?

If the holes are not too large and near the edge of the material then this may do the trick. I have used one for several years. Peter.
