Countach registration

2 Attachment(s)
Hi , first post ....
I have bought a BROADBEST countach replica chassis and body , collected a bmw v12 engine last night and I have a Renault 21 gearbox , there are no numbers on chassis or body , I have no paperwork with engine and the running gear on chassis is Granada.
my question is ....
is there any way this WONT be a Q plate !!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul L 30th March 2018 05:19

Welcome to the forum.

Have you seen the DVLA rules for a kit converted car?

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registrat...erted-vehicles

Did your kit come with any kind of V5C, or was it basically just a collection of parts?

I’m no expert, but I think you would need to prove the providence of at least two of your major components used to have even half a chance of claiming an original registration number or an age related plate.

You would also have to prove the chassis was built by Broadbest and is not just a random collection of box section welded together. So is there an original Broadbest VIN number type plate sitting in a box of spare parts somewhere, or even an invoice from Broadbest?

Part of the BIVA emission test will relate to the age of the engine. So if you don’t have any paperwork for the engine, do you at least have an original engine number to work with?

Apologies for the list of questions, but it you are desperate to avoid a Q plate, then I’m afraid you will need to do some ‘homework’. My (admittedly limited) understanding of these type of kits is that they consume both time and money at an alarming rate if you want to get the car on the road to a decent standard.

So now might be a good time to establish just what is required to go from this:

To this:

There are two big Countach threads on this forum here:
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...ead.php?t=3957
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...ead.php?t=3642

But everything you might ever want to know is probably here:

Good luck, Paul. :)

mmmmm

hi
no paperwork or vc5 with chassis and broadbest long gone !! this will be a problem !!

got engine numbers so history shouldn't be a problem there.

I have custom made drive shafts and other bits but no paperwork.

I'm not intimidated with the scale of build , work load or cost as I have built many projects from the ground up but I have waited 25 years to build this and I refuse to have a Q plate !!! lol

I don't mind throwing money and research at this to solve the problem so long as it is solverbull !

don't want to do any more work on chassis incase I need to change it !

Are you on Facebook?

As there is a guy called Kev whose user name is kapri over on the Rods 'n' Sods forum.

Without doubt he is the expert on all things DVLA related.

Due to some health issues he now only offers specific advice in return for a donation to charity.

He also runs a Facebook group for BIVA builders.

I'm not on Facebook myself, but would highly recommend Kev if you want to avoid a Q plate.

Good luck, Paul. :)

Great thanks paul will look him up , I have had a chat with a guy that has put my mind at rest for now.

I need a set of rims but they seam to be "thin on the ground"

and the gearbox adaption plate doesn't seam to exist !

redratbike 30th March 2018 19:21

I’d find someone else who owns a registered broadcast ask to see their paperwork and er conjure some up to assist in getting a non q plate

prince albert 30th March 2018 19:32

good thinking but where do I start , iv never seen one completed lol like rocking horse poo !
I would pay for a picture !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

peterux 30th March 2018 19:46

Your best bet to get an age related plate is to buy another Granada donor car.
Any condition will do so long as you can take pictures of it and it has a V5C in your name.
You then just need to use two major components from your 'new' donor car to qualify for an age related registration plate.

You'll find all the details here....

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registrat...erted-vehicles

Of course that is after you passed your IVA test!!

Just found this on the web....

You could try companies such as p9cyoplates.co.uk for adaptor plates. I think they will do one offs.

great ta

Lucky@LeMans 30th March 2018 23:21

If you can't find a chassis number you could always stamp your own one onto the frame. As long as its unique such as broadbest000101, just a thought.

Sorry, I'm having a few IT problems and can't get links or copy/paste to work at the moment.

But if you go back to the DVLA link above and look at "rebuilt vehicles" you will see the list of major components.

The key point is that to get an original / age related plate the frame and body don't count.

The frame allows you to register the car as a kit and the body doesn't have a DVLA identify if there is a seperate chassis.
( The body shell only counts if it is a monocoque. )

This is where Kev/Kapri can help, as I'm not sure if you can count your engine and transmission if they come from different cars and there is no V5C for either.

Hope that helps, Paul. :)

thanks guys , food for thought.
so the two major components will have to be steering and suspension , will the suspension still count if I have to modify the fixings as totally different ?

also going to buy a Granada Scorpio as can use quite a bit of stuff including air con , boot /bonnet catches and of Corse log book etc

spent another day stripping off the old paint and mastic off the chassis , will this ever end !!!

Hi. be careful with p9cyoplates. He was going to do me one. I had to supply my gearbox which I never saw again!! Then would not answer the phone or reply to text messages.
I used another guy who told me he heard this about him all the time. He also told me he deals in scrap!!

prince albert 1st April 2018 16:24

thanks for that , sounds like a nice guy !!!

after looking at some adapter plates I'm going to make it myself , I do quite a bit of engineering work and they look quite simple but bit more research needed , desperately looking for wheels still !

finished getting all them layers of paint off the chassis ..
