MX250 Build
 

Hi All

I am a new member here and the first time on any forum so you will have bear with me while I get used to doing things on here.

Now with the start of my build of my MX250 I started the build in June 2015. I chose the mk2 MX5 for my base as it was what came up first and the best option for me. I started with the usual of stripping the car down cutting the wing back and flaring the rear arches in ready for the kit to arrive.

Once the Kit arrived it started with the roll cage and the rear extension being fitted then fitting of the kit, but decided that the rear end of the kit was to wide for me so ended up cutting it down to suit my taste. It is at that stage now at the moment with the kit narrowed and ready for bonding on.

Will over time post descriptions and pictures of the build at the stage it is at now as I am waiting for the weather to get a bit better until a resume the build. have posted a few pictures now to see if I am doing things right.

hi Nick if you want a boot you can get more than a carrier bag into when the body is on its easier to cut out the back panel now before you bond the rear on .

Im not sure that is a good idea - that would be modifying the monocoque body/chassis unit.
While you and I might not think it will effect the strength of the finished car, an insurance assessor might disagree especially if the car is rear ended.

Many fall foul of this, the Widow SPR1 has cut away monococoque to allow the body to fit.

I have been undecided to the boot but as Roadster said it can be a insurance and possible IVA issue, so for what the car is going to used for I think I am going to leave it in. I can still access the spare wheel and battery and can get a overnight bag in.

looking good should save a few quid on wheel spacers as well

As for the colour was thinking yellow at first but thinking of White & Black strips at the moment with even Black alloys. Seen one at Stoneleigh last year that looked good in White.

Have Used the original MX5 fuel neck so that the pull lever inside the car operates it photo's attached.

Can't decide whether to put a quarter light in the rear side for better visibility when driving it or a vent.

You seem to be making good progress.

I have taken out four inches all together two inches either side, there are moulding lines on top of the arches that I followed around to the centre where I took out four inches out of the number plate section.

It looks much better to me as you have done it.
Wish we could get them in the USA, I'd be finished by now.
Unfortunately, the cost would nearly double with shipping and
crating (Agricultural certificated needed for the crate). It looks
fantastic as you have done it. Thanks! Following along with great interest.

Just how you are getting on really. The original fuel filler was a nice touch that imo was a fresh touch, and will suit the narrower body.

I love seeing these cars come together.

Here is a few more pictures of the the rear end narrowed, I have also bonded the front wings onto the front part of the kit and fitted spacers to the rear wheels to bring them more flush to the arches's will post photo's when I get time to photograph the car. Bit busy at the moment with getting ready for a holiday with the family next week.
