I need to do some research I don't recognise these but if price is realistic they might make a better option |
The Puritalia is in the same direction as my sketch - I had never seen it when I searched cobra concepts.
The headlamps look bespoke with projector units behind covers. Maybe that could be a solution to losing any references to other cars https://youtu.be/wKzyJ-4IeVQ http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...pstojoq7ak.jpg My original sketch - the idea was there but my proportions almost mid engine. The lower lamps were added when I realised that the fiat 500 main lamps were only dipped and indicator. The bonnet scoop was added after I visited Chris and had a chat |
I think you will find that the new 2015 Mini Cooper S headlamps are identical to the Mini Superleggera units.

Thanks DGM
The lights I looked at in EuroCar Parts didn't resemble those |

More expensive but worth a try - maybe I will take my tape measure to a dealership first |
Lots of good ideas there, and some fun for you when checking them out. Good luck, and please keep us informed. It looks a very exciting project.

The grill looks unfinished, no real shape to it.

Sorry DSG im with Garry you do great work but the bonnet and wings have been blended together. My original design harks back to the time when wings and bonnet were separate units. They of course will not be but the contours suggest they are |

Maybe if you can get your mini lamps onto this and loose the mini side / indicator lamps - perhaps spot lamps instead. Ive been to a dealership - nice lamps £1000+ ballasts etc for the Xenon lamps in your pic Only £400 a pair for the non Xenon version http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...pskvagda1o.jpg The fiat units were £38 each I know the mini lamp looks better but I wonder how commercially viable the front end becomes when the lamps cost so much. After all Tribute doesn't sell this sort of kit in £4000+ price range which is why we love them. They are well made and as economic as we want them. Sure the SWb ,Kobra and GTO could all have lots of money spent on them but you can build a budget version if that's what you want. |
I appreciate the front end will possibly use the z300 front end as a starting point, but with the design changes you're requesting, how would z300 7" headlamps and cowls match your design thoughts and be sufficiently different from the original Tribute shape. Should be a reasonable cost, proven solution?

What about an Alfa Mito? Headlamps are £150 a pair on eBay and sufficiently unusual so people won't guess the doner.

You are right about the wings and bonnet with the blended look. A Cobra should always show it´s mascular wings.
http://oi61.tinypic.com/29ux4ck.jpg There is another way round the headlamp issue. Have you thought of "old school" In the 60´s most sports cars used 7 inch units behind glass/perspex covers to give them a streamlined look. e.g. Aston DB5, E type. GTO, etc. You can take that route but using modern 7 inch units with L.E.D.s or projector lights or halo lighting. Some cost as little as £70 the pair. http://oi61.tinypic.com/rsezw6.jpg Check out the Car Builder Solutions catalogue for a wide selection of front and rear lights. http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/CBS_Catalogue.pdf |

I still think the scoop can be less obvious
A flat channel in front of the scoop? Lowers the rise of the scoop but still keeps it looking meaningful |
Creating from scratch is great fun and I like the direction of this car. I used early Mini Cooper headlights on one of my cars. I purchased them new on Ebay. They were pretty inexpensive.
Have fun. http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...rphotos077.jpg |
