Um no not really or am I just being a bit dull doh!

I think I would buy L section ally strip.
Rivet it in place , adjust the angle to suit and then attach the screen to that. |
That sounds like a viable option it depends how difficult it is to accurately bend alloy angle in two planes without a bendy stretchy shrinky tool thingy? but as the alloy angle is quite cheep I'll get some and give it a go.
Thanks lots |
Started on the doors a friend has a metal shrinking machine and our first attempt at bending the angle alloy the wood is some beech hardwood for the passenger seat to raise it to the same level as the drivers one which has runners.
[IMGhttp://i410.photobucket.com/albums/p...k/DSCF0950.jpg][/IMG] The errant lips have now been cut off the doors which will have to be reinforced along the top edge then filled and sanded before taking them back to my friend to get the angle to a good fit I hope. I managed to get a bit moor done this weekend I finished off the door lips these will be fitted after the car has been painted.
I also managed to get some door latches very cheep off flea bay, they are off a mini and should do the job nicely I will have to make some locating pins as they didn't come with them the leavers are actually the locking arms I could use them as openers or try to make some? the latches will fit inside the door after much drilling and filing I got to this stage the laches bolted in place so far so good I think it's going to work? |
Only just seen your door problem, I don't seem to get on the site very much theses days Degsy!
I had exactly the same problem, and my solution was covered on my build thread with all the pictures showing how I fixed it. In short, I sliced halfway through the upright bit which leaned too far inwards, straightened it out into the more upright position I needed, and simply glassed it back together. I cannot remember which page the pics were on! So don't ask, it was a bit fiddly but simple enough to do. Hope this advice has not come too late for you! Good luck with it. |
Scottie nice to hear from you Just a little bit too late but that's fine the alloy angle one's should work just fine and they'll be removable for those wonderful sunny days we get in this country!

sunny days
Oh!!
I always thought you lived in England!! |
Wales even wetter
|
Not much happening at the moment I am collecting all the bits needed to make the door opening and closing mechanism I' bent the striker pins and need to make the mounting plates I need to drill and tap the square drives bur failed miserably so I'll have to phone a friend (with a lathe) still waiting for some parts to make the handle bearings!
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=827 The other reason for this post was to try out our new picture gallery :first: much easier than photo bucket?? lol |
I cant believe the time and effort it is taking to make these door mechanism's, this is the first effort to make the striker pins but they wouldn't lock something to do with the bends I think?
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=843 I ended up with this but will probably change them as I may catch my clothes on them. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=844 my tool maker friend Paul R turned the handle spindles for me http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=845 I have welded the lugs on with a 5mm thick washer as a bearing http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=840 and it will look like this when finished http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=838 or like this http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=837 as the doors only have a single hinge they tend to drop a bit (lot) so I have to make some sort of alignment thingy?? I am considering doing a Scottie on the boot lid and have marked it out ready for cutting Pros more usable boot space moor manageable boot lid and easer to make a locking system. Cons an awful lot of work http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=842 |
Well I took the plunge and cut the boot in in half if it all goes wrong I'm blaming Scottie It was his idea and I'm just being a copy cat!!
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=847 :flame: That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. |
This is the bottom half of the boot lid being glassed into place

cutting the first lip out of glass fibre sheet
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=853 and the lip glassed into place http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=855 The corner sections are were made by simply taping a strip of card to the right profile and back filling with fibre glass paste again. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=858 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=857 It will all be filled in later http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=859 The lower lip marked out ready for cutting but it was getting too cold in my tin shed to continue so Ill have a go at that on Wednesday with a bit of luck till then tata for now :drum: |
I managed to get some moor done yesterday I cut out the lower boot lip clamped in place and glassed it in.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=872 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=870http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=869 much filling and sanding later. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=868 I then decided to do the boot lid lip :icon_eek: it should have been quite easy a card strip taped in place and back filled with glass paste but it was so cold it took over an hour to set and it sort of bowed a bit http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=867 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...&pictureid=866 a bit of sabding and filling to get it right:shocked: |
Good progress, keep the pics coming!
|
Deggsy - Your boot is coming together nicely.
Good to see I am not the only one using old cardboard beer cases during the build process. I even used empty cans of Fosters for my fibreglass tail pipe cut outs. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-S...o/DSCF3421.JPG Good luck, Paul. :) |
Nice one Degsy!
Don't you dare blame me if it doesn't come out right!! Mine came out right!! Seriously, it looks fine, and I'm sure that your's will come out just perfectly. As you say, it is a lot of extra work, but I am really pleased I did mine that way, and have never regretted it. Don't forget the drain holes in both corners! |
Thanks' gents Aghhh both Scottie corners if you look closely you can see the one and only one in the centre doh!
|
or even both corners Scottie oops
