Thanks Scottie progress is slow but sure it would have been a lot easier if I could have got a fibreglass hard top but I am pleased with the result so far.

Continuing with the screen frame l cut out the floating nuts from the discarded part of the hardtop drilled some holes and plug welded them in place so now I have mounting points with a bit of adjustment:whoo:

the brackets for the windscreen frame have been roughly jigged up though I cant finish it off the until the lip has been sorted still waiting for my friend to sorting that part of things.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1114 In the mean time I fitted the bonnet locks I have also got some leather straps which I may fit just for show? http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1115 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1116 I had the head rests back from the trimmers I am not entirely happy with them apparently the foam I used was too soft doh! so I may get them re-covered one day? http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1118 I'll have to see how they look when the car is finished???? |
I managed to persuade my friend to lend me his metal stretcher/shrinker thingy .
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1124 now I must point out I have never used on before so I am on a bit of a learning curve here. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1123 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1122 here are some of my efforts its not very clear in the photos but these bits of 15mm angle have a double curvature in them very awkward to it get right it took me about 10 hours to do all five doh! :noidea: but I am slowly getting there.:humble: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1121 |
Well done that man

Barber/Molleur

Ian
Too true you need them all and more for this hobby so we must be a clever bunch of people? well that's what I keep telling everyone anyway. Hmm |
Deggsy - Great job on the framework.
|
Nice work Deggsy, you will end up with a nice well balanced screen in the end, I must admit it took me like what seemed forever to make my screen, and it dragged on for weeks and weeks, but its very satisfying when its done and it works!
Have you given any thuoght to how you will arrange the wipers yet? That was a big problem for me, but it was sorted eventually Scottie |
I don't think anyone outside the hobby appreciates just how long some of these jobs can take ...
|
Thanks for all the encouragement gents. Scottie the plan is to extend the lip of the front bulkhead around the wheel boxes then cut and shape the bonnet to fit. hopefully I'll get I right.
|
The windscreen frame is coming along slowly finished making the lip and then had to box the frame in to make it rigid.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1128 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1127 making the card templates to box the frame. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1129 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1125 Now I am on the worst bit filling and sanding because of the amount of welding there is lots of it to be done sanding filling, sanding filling, sanding filling, sanding filling, just thinking about it is driving me towards the TV doh! |
Looking good!
|
Getting there four days ish of filling and flatting back has got me to this stage
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1134 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1132 there are still lots and lots of small imperfections so I've just been out to get some stopper filler to try and sort them out more filling/sanding doh:doubt: |
Deggsy – I’ve now reached the point where small imperfections are referred to as character. :icon_wink:
Either way, you have done a great job on the screen. Good luck, Paul. :) |
Screen
Paul work has stopped on the screen frame as the screen doesn't quite fit correctly there may have been some distortion during the welding ? I did check honest guv. Or it may be the screen rubber which seems to be a special profile but I can't get one I will have to wait for a triumph specialist to get some in stock.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1139 In the mean time I've started on the wiper box mounts you can just about see them in the photo http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1140 Due to the bonnet bulge I am fitting one at each corner and they should park in the middle one above the other, which threw up another problem the park switch has on the motor has packed up so I've sent for a new one today doh |
Not much happening lately I am still waiting for a rear screen rubber. The wiper motor park switch is fitted and a new 90 degree gear drive was also fitted the wheel box mounts are finished and fitted.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1142 And will look like this with the bonnet down. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1143 And up. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1141 Unfortunately my nice new wheel boxes are too short so I'll have to get some 64mm ones, if anyone needs a set of standard mini wheel boxes (50mm shaft) let me know they cost me £44 for the pair I'll sell them for half that.:violin: |
Deggsy – I like the way the bonnet is cut around the wiper boxes.
Will you need to add some strength to the edge of the bonnet around the cuts? Good luck, Paul. :) |
