Why not use dzus fasteners and make it removable..
Unless I misunderstood your post.

deggsy 28th June 2019 08:14

Molleur

Deggsy - Your aluminium half tonneau cover will look spectacular.

Good luck with all the drilling and riveting required.

Cheers, Paul. :)

hard cover

Almost finished now all the supports and alloy sheet have been made and drilled fixed with over 200 pop rivets.

The panel was then etch primed and all the rivets heads filled and flatted to look like old fashion rivets rather than the pop ones.

Etch primed again then the same process for the end fillets.

The fillets will be removable, ready for painting now I have left six rivets out into which i will fit some m4x30mm button head bolts which will have tabs on them to hold the panel in place if that isn't secure enough then i'll fit some boot locks:mmph:
Cheers back soon.

molleur 9th July 2019 20:33

Paul L 9th July 2019 21:16

You filled the heads of 200 rivets!

Rather you than me, but great job

Good luck, Paul. :)

deggsy 10th July 2019 16:08

I will post photos when done.

Lucky@LeMans 24th August 2019 21:46

Best of luck with the paint, make the most of the warm dry weather, its about as good as it gets for painting at home !

deggsy 28th August 2019 16:23

Looking good. Am I going mad tho... those pics look like they are the same pics from the 24th?

deggsy 29th August 2019 17:07

Hmmm my apologies you are right i don't know what happened there the photos I took seem to have vanished into the either.
Never mind I will post some of the finished paint job in the next day or two.

Paul L 31st August 2019 06:11

Hope the painting is going well and I'm looking forward to seeing it in colour.

Good luck, Paul. :)

deggsy 31st August 2019 09:11

painting finished

Finished the painting late last night there are a few small runs but nothing major I will leave it a few days to fully cure then start on butting it all back together. :eusa_dance:

I do have a small confession to make I didn't spray it myself my nephew volunteered and as he has sprayed a half dozen or so in the past who was I to refuse his kind offer. :eusa_shhh:

deggsy 31st August 2019 09:13

And thanks for the encouragement guys.

molleur 31st August 2019 12:54

looking good!

deggsy 8th September 2019 18:50

I have started putting it all back together some of the lights are in place.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1465
For some reason the doors and boot lid don't line up any more incredible the difference a coat or two of paint makes! also the boot lid support bracket which is/was bonded on decided to un-bond itself twice :mad2: I am looking into other bonding materials as I don't want to drill a hole in the lid and bolt it in place.

It should look a bit like this when they are fitted properly :peep:

molleur 8th September 2019 19:41

Very nice!

Make sure to remove ALL of the old bonding material.
I have been using UPOL Tiger Seal with success.

Munky 9th September 2019 00:37

That looks fantastic!
Hats off to you sir!

Paul L 11th September 2019 13:59

Deggsy - Your car is coming together very nicely.

I am sure it will look even better when you get the chance to roll it out into natural light.

Good luck with getting everything to fit as nicely as you would like.

Although, I recently posted these photos on the Miglia forum….

As the key thing to remember is that back in the ‘50s, these cars were built like this…

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...3e11fc5d26.jpg

Not like this. :icon_twisted:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/V0...6=w670-h416-no

So if you do end up with some odd panel gaps, just say the body shell for the car was hand built. :D

Cheers, Paul. :)
