Why not use dzus fasteners and make it removable..
Unless I misunderstood your post. |
Molleur
Thanks for the reply yes it will be removable i'll be using some sort of clips. cheers Deggsy |
Deggsy - Your aluminium half tonneau cover will look spectacular.
Good luck with all the drilling and riveting required. Cheers, Paul. :) |
hard cover
Almost finished now all the supports and alloy sheet have been made and drilled fixed with over 200 pop rivets.

fantastic job, well done!
|
You filled the heads of 200 rivets!
Rather you than me, but great job  Good luck, Paul. :) |
Yep took me the best part of two days and there are still a few that have to be re done. doh!
|
Not a lot been happening lately but I finally took the plunge and bought a compressor the car is now up on ramps ready to be flatted back for primer. I have also been cleaning the garage ready for painting the car
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1439 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1438 I am hoping to start spraying it next week if all goes well  I will post photos when done. |
Best of luck with the paint, make the most of the warm dry weather, its about as good as it gets for painting at home !
|
Paint
The car has now had two coats of high build primer which showed up a few flaws which we missed these have now been stoppered flatted and re sprayed.
I am hoping for nicer weather tomorrow to apply the top coats :humble: http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1447 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1446 |
Looking good. Am I going mad tho... those pics look like they are the same pics from the 24th?
|
Hmmm my apologies you are right i don't know what happened there the photos I took seem to have vanished into the either.
Never mind I will post some of the finished paint job in the next day or two. |
Hope the painting is going well and I'm looking forward to seeing it in colour.
Good luck, Paul. :) |
painting finished
Finished the painting late last night there are a few small runs but nothing major I will leave it a few days to fully cure then start on butting it all back together. :eusa_dance:
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1459 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1458 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1455 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1452 I do have a small confession to make I didn't spray it myself my nephew volunteered and as he has sprayed a half dozen or so in the past who was I to refuse his kind offer. :eusa_shhh: |
And thanks for the encouragement guys.
|
looking good!
|
I have started putting it all back together some of the lights are in place.
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1465 For some reason the doors and boot lid don't line up any more incredible the difference a coat or two of paint makes! also the boot lid support bracket which is/was bonded on decided to un-bond itself twice :mad2: I am looking into other bonding materials as I don't want to drill a hole in the lid and bolt it in place. http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1468 http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...pictureid=1467 It should look a bit like this when they are fitted properly :peep: |
Very nice!
Make sure to remove ALL of the old bonding material. I have been using UPOL Tiger Seal with success. |
That looks fantastic!
Hats off to you sir! |
Deggsy - Your car is coming together very nicely.
I am sure it will look even better when you get the chance to roll it out into natural light. Good luck with getting everything to fit as nicely as you would like. Although, I recently posted these photos on the Miglia forum…. As the key thing to remember is that back in the ‘50s, these cars were built like this… https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...3e11fc5d26.jpg Not like this. :icon_twisted: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/V0...6=w670-h416-no So if you do end up with some odd panel gaps, just say the body shell for the car was hand built. :D Cheers, Paul. :) |
