Ref the spacers.... It would be ideal if it didn't need spacers WITH STANDARD WHEELS. We all know it's possible to get different offsets, but can get silly cost wise. Starting with the standard wheels without spacers make a low-cost build all the more likely. I'd think it would look great with some steels.:smile:

Whilst I agree that not wasting money is a good thing, I think that building a tribute to one of the prettiest cars ever built shouldnt be a penny pinching exercise. The most important thing, and one that Chris is very, very good at, is to make the proportions and relationships between design elements work well together. Sometimes these elements need to be exagerated to give the right effect in the tribute due to constraints in the donor vehicle's design. I believe one such will be the rear wings and using Cobra or GTO wings will be a good starting point. Personally, I plan to use deep dish wheels on mine - just like the original, so I expect pronounced haunches just like Pinninfarina draughted

I agree it would be good to get the body looking as 'correct' as possible - however consider also that changing the offset of the wheels (whether by wheel design or spacers) may not have a dramatic effect on the rear axle the same can't be said of the front! Changing front offsets may ruin the handling of the donor car/ your exotic creation!

:first: This is where the magic happens and Chris turns it into stunning kit . All you have to remember is that its based on shapes. Some bits stay and others go. Quite fun watching the builds coz it looks like the car cracks and then rebuilds itself into the right shape. Quite a unique process. Wheel arches can be moved up and down, forward and back in the wing.

Chris is quite good at cutting things up, sticking them back together and making them look right. Who would have thought the top picture would look like the bottom picture?

Following this thread with a great deal of interest as I really like the 250 swb shape. Have you come up with a suitable rear window glass yet? I was thinking the MGB GT or VW Type 3 fastback screens might just fit the bill -

Having done a bit of surfing I reckon the gt screen is about right - the angle looks the same and the B GT and SWB are the same height.

I think it could work, especially for those of us that don't really like modern donors... Oh, nearly forgot, anyone know if the B GT roof is structural? I'm thinking cut it short to match the length of the Ferrari roof and graft on a fibreglass panel to give the right angle at the back end. |
