Google is your friend here... try "car body buck". Edit- Ah- you already did!!!

"Once your work is completed, the buck can be stored flat taking up minimal space. You could give it to the client, but if you store it yourself you will be the first port of call should any further work be required. This especially applies to racing vehicles that may need regular repair work.

The cost is not as great as you would think and stage payments are available. In fact what we do should not really be called a cost, as it normally ends up saving firms like yours time, money and hassle."

Check this one out !!!

From : https://revsinstitute.org/the-collec...e-carrera-gts/

The 904 was produced because Porsche needed a new instrument to continue winning two-liter
Grand Touring Championship races for the 1964 season. Regulations now dictated a 100 unit minimum
production. This worried Porsche since never before had the factory sold more than 35 or so of any single
race car. So the 904 was designed to be streetable too.

Ferdinand “Butzi: Porsche III – Ferry’s eldest son who, at 28, was heading Porsche’s new styling
department – designed a fiberglass (GRP) body that was bonded directly to the sheet metal chassis’ side rails.
Given the size of the production run, the body/frame assembly was contracted out to aircraft
builder Heinkel. Unfortunately, the “spray and chopper gun” manufacturing system gave inadequate control
over body panel thickness. Thus a 904 was usually vastly heavier (from 100-200 pounds) than its
homologated weight-which tended to irritate purchasers. Height of the 904 was a mere 42.0 inches, which
made getting into it difficult for a sizable driver. Yet, despite all, the car was a winner.

Porsche 904s took on Ford, Ferrari and Abarth at the Targa and finished one-two in the GT
Class. At Le Mans, while five of a dozen Ferraris retired, Porsche’s record with the 904 was five
entries, five finishers in the top twelve. Among races in which the display car competed in 1964
were Bad Nerrenahr, the Targa Florio and the Nurburgring 1000 km.

In addition to the structural problems of the body and the 904’s unforgiveness of driver error,
its gearbox was a handful, its engine obsolete. But the car’s charisma was everlasting. While other
superannuated Stuttgart competition cars lay forgotten in fields, back garages or dusty corners of
racing shops, the 904 became the first collectible racing Porsche. Its “flying buttress” rear window
inspired Pinninfarina’s mid-engined Dino GT for Ferrari and Bill Mitchell’s styling for Corvette.
Some say the 904 was the most beautiful Porsche road car ever built.

So it was badly built with dodgy mechanicals. I spent around an hour at the NEC Classic show looking around this and discussing with the Porsche stand guys. This is not a replica.

Ferry Porsche signed an agreement with the Aldington family, appointing AFN Porsche (London) Limited as sole concessionaires for Porsche cars in the UK, based at their Falcon Works premises, London Road, Isleworth, Middlesex.

When I was a lad I used to cycle the mile or so from my house up to their showrooms. I remember the first road-going 904s coming in.

Incidentally- 100m along the road was the bodyshop that produced aluminium bodies for the AC Ace. the bare chassis would be brought over from Thames Ditton and the newly bodied cars driven back on trade plates.

I know it has been done in the past, but surely this could be done on a van platform?

Not a proper car, a custom job from the 60's. Those of a certain age will remember the Deora with two surfboards amongst their hotwheels collection.

Good grief, at first sight I thought that was the Merlin engined 'beast' facing right.

zagmad 24th November 2015 19:37

How about a Ferrari 250 gto drogo.

zagmad 25th November 2015 16:17

Id like to see what can be done with a mk2 mx5. The light area seems easier to have the lights set back. Possibly the California

zagmad 29th November 2015 14:09

Id like to see if dsg4me could show how a fiat Dino back end would look on a Alfa Romeo junior. Allowing for window sizes to be level . Or fiat Dino with an Alfa junior front eg, A pillar onwards.

I do like the Dino but would like a sleeker side window. Has a 70's muscle car look with detail and proportions of an Italian classic.

Call me mad but I've recently found a company does fibreglass replacent parts for the Alfa Romeo junior bertone. And another that does bits for the Dino. A mix of both on a car with a sleeker window line and roof line would look awesome. I'm waiting for some panels to arrive. If they are good quality ill see how they look on my donor. Possibly with the swb roof line. Roof skin, door skin, bonnet etc.
