Trevor Bennett's Cordite Build

Hi - I'm back!

For those of you that don't know me from before, I built "number 48", the red car now owned by David. Some of you might even have seen my blog here

Last year I sold the car as I was getting married and needed the money to finance the Wedding. Well, I'm now married and am back again having just placed my deposit on a Cordite kit. I need a bit of time to get sorted with my donor Spitfire first, so I'm aiming for a delivery date of early September, around 8 / 9 weeks from now.

I do have a new blog here with nothing on it yet, but give me a few days and some pictures will start appearing.

I've bought a late 1972 (tax excempt) Spitfire for £850. A tad expensive, but it had a new gearbox from Canley Classics and a reconditioned 1500 engine and has had a full body off refurb at some point. The chassis also appears to be in good nick too - more will become clear once the bodyshell is off.

I hope you're all well,

Let the madness begin................

Trevor.

Hi, donor looks nice. surely 1972 not 1962. Enjoyed following your Sammio build blog which was a big influence in my decision to build one. Good luck and look forward to your updates.

You are quite right, it is a 1972 car, post amended.

Thanks for your kind words.

Welcome back Trevor, looking forward to seeing your next build progress. Donor looks great value for money at that price, good choice. :)

+1

I'm sure your experiences from that first build will help the second.

Good luck, Paul. :)

Hi Trevor, i'm still lurking no nearer to buying a kit but look forward to your blog ..as the last one was great..although i must admit to liking the cordite even more than the original sammio

Welcome back matey! :)

So if your body is delivered in September you'll be done and ready to take it to Exeter at the end of the year for a meet up?

Talk to you soon.

Dave

Good to see this - I thought it was a shame that you sold 48 so quickly. You're blog fueled my enthusiasm while I planned my build, and we exchanged a few emails.

It's also reassuring to know that a car-build can facilitate holy matrimony rather than undermine it.

Sammio Builder 28th June 2012 09:54

It really is amazing how many people have viewed the blog, having just checked the stats, staggeringly the Sypder one has had 32344 hits! (The cordite one has already had 78 too!)

I should have been on a commission for sales leads...........

Dave, don't you mean ready for the Donnington kitcar show the first weekend of Sept? :bounce:

Trevor,

Wonderful to see you back on here. I refer to your Spyder blog for inspiration on my build all the time!

I was thinking you might have it finished and sprayed for the Sammio gathering this weekend?

Welcome back Trevor, as others have said, your blog was the tipping point for a lot of us and certainly helped me make a decision.

Look forward to seeing this one progress!

Hi Trevor.
Welcome back and Talk about a tipping point!
Back in October last year I picked up a copy of the Kit Car mag to read on holiday and figure what my next project was going to be. Your article led me into the Sammio path by January and little did I know I would be where I am today back then
Great doing business with you and I'll be following this build with interest.

Trevor

Like many others it was reading your blog that set me on the Sammio route so i'll be looking forward to your Cordite build as it should, in theory, run parallel with mine (although i suspect yours will probably take half the time)

Welcome back!
