Website

Still under construction but enough to make live ......

www.formosacars.co.uk

molleur 30th December 2019 01:04

Nice web site design too!

Mister Towed 30th December 2019 09:26

Very slick website, informative, easy to navigate and lots of enticing pictures. Should generate some interest and sales.

Lucky@LeMans 30th December 2019 09:42

Looks good so far !

My daughter watched the intro video on the site and suggested a video of the car whizzing along at speed would be more dynamic and enticing for potential customers !

Otherwise a very good, easy to navigate site.

SHE COULD BE RIGHT !!

My interpretation is that I am arriving at Formosa ...as is the person logging onto the intro page ...

I’m on an iPad in the US and didn’t see a video at all on the site.
Is that due to Apples ‘no flash’ embargo or am I just not looking hard enough?
This is what I see when I open the page:

True, but to the casual observer you are pulling up next to a skip, some broken pallets against the fence and an old boat !

If that was your intention a big "Formosa" sign on the wall and a declutter of the yard would help hugely !

Sorry to be critical !

Jaguartvr 30th December 2019 18:38

Bit harsh saying you're pulling up in a skip! Maybe you could use No 64,121 or 7 instead:peep:

Nicely laid out and clear website. I don't think I have seen a website before where all of the background is a film clip. Works very well.

lancelot link 30th December 2019 18:40

It's just a bit of background video that's just being used to make the home page a bit more interesting ... Nothing more ... It's a website under construction and as time goes on it will be changed for other videos ... As a side note , the new premises and yard etc are a lot tidier and accessible than my old place as followers on Facebook and Instagram will see but this business on my level will never be a shiny showroom and reception style business as the expenditure couldn't be justified .... Any ways , starting to remember why I stopped coming on here so often ......

Jaguartvr 30th December 2019 19:45

My pet hate is a flash showroom offering you coffee etc. I want my car repaired, I don't want to be paying for flash surroundings and staff who know nothing about working in a garage, they just add to the bottom line.

froggyman 30th December 2019 20:07

Hi Gary, well done a nicely laid out easy to navigate website with all the variations, options and accessories available shown, including the prices. I am sure that any comments made to date are purely constructively aimed by passionate members who are keen to see your business continue to grow. Look forward to future updates and wish you every success in 2020.

Munky 30th December 2019 21:21

I like the website and that’s as a potential 2020 customer.
Your number 4 is one of my all time favorite cars - as I’ve stated in a couple of your YouTube videos in the comments section.

I’ve also posted images of it a few times on RetroRides forum in the Cafe Racer discussion in the ‘general’ topic area as I like it so much.

http://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/...e-cars?page=26

Didn’t mean to be negative- sorry. Just wanted you to know the video doesn’t seem to work for me in the US on an iPad.

Being a bit sensitive...comments are on the whole positive. As you say it's under construction so can't be perfect. Some honest feedback has been given, that's all

Jaguartvr 30th December 2019 21:50

I get feedback from my Cafe Racer website saying that they have problems accessing it from an iPad, no idea why, totally beyond me.

Lucky@LeMans 30th December 2019 22:21

The new website looks really good and its easy to navigate. I didn't mean to be negative, just adding my thoughts re the video. Like you said its still under construction so you might be tweaking it a little anyway. Most of us on the forum are full of praise for you and your products, I know I have been.

Have a great new year and a productive 2020

lancelot link 2nd January 2020 12:01

Fair do's ..I probably over reacted ... its a very hard induistry to survive in sometimes and can be quite stressful ...certainly not living the dream !!
I can be a bit sensitive about it sometimes ... Apologies and Harpy knew Yeer ...

Lucky@LeMans 12th January 2020 10:01

I like the addition of the extra video's you have put up. The link with the Petrolicious Ferrari is one of the best videos out there. It gave me lots of inspiration during my 250 Testarossa build.

smash 20th January 2020 19:58

I really, really like that sage green one with the black wires - spot on

Paul L 26th January 2020 10:57

Gary – I like the website.

The fact all the options are laid out / priced clearly is a good way to work out what you want.

Cheers, Paul. :)

Lucky@LeMans 6th March 2020 14:02

The new front end looks really smart, is that going to be a choice between one or the other when ordering or an extra cost option ?

Your V8 customer car looks interesting, is that one a Rover V8 or something else ? I like the idea of the modern crate engines that are available for reasonable money these days.

Just checked out the updated website. I think the new front end will prove to be a popular option. Not an expensive retro fit for existing cars either !

lancelot link 19th March 2020 08:34

Thank you Lucky ...

I have only just seen your posting , so apologies for late reply. The V8 car is a long nose on a Scimitar chassis with a 2004 Mustang 4.6 litre engine fitted with a Tremec 5 speed gearbox and converted to carb. It's a snug fit ... Lots of room in the engine bay but a large gearbox made it a bit of a squeeze ...

https://i.ibb.co/kmrzCY0/IMG-0377.jpg

This car was initially what prompted me to create a new bonnet as I was worried the engine height and sloping nose of the Formosa would be an issue ...As it turned out once I dropped the engine in place , she sits low enough to not cause a problem but the seed had been sown to do a new bonnet so we carried on !!

https://i.ibb.co/ZN5MsK6/89722010-49...99123200-o.jpg

I like the new front , it has a bit of an early 50s feel to it so takes the car back to my earlier efforts a bit .. Putting it into the same era as a S*mmio , pre 55 styled rather than the 55-59 styling of the original Formosa ....

The bonnets are slightly more involved than the original to make as a seperately moulded headlight bucket needed to be utilized on this one but I've kept price the same to fall in line with current options available... the larger and deeper grille being used on this one is the only extra expense if you chose that to use on your car ...

https://i.ibb.co/4FKFJfT/89813108-49...52889344-o.jpg

I have 4 examples spoken for , the V8 car above, Geoffs wide body which will have to be altered ....a new order featuring twin headrests and a short nose going on a Triumph which will involve me reducing the front wheelarches back to 15'' suitability

https://i.ibb.co/tPcqjsV/85174422-49...59331072-o.jpg

and a fourth one going on a Bond Equipe 6 cyl. based car with deleted headrest that will again be adapted to suit and fitted for the customer including inner wing framework etc ....

https://i.ibb.co/6n16XF5/84499924-73...01106944-o.jpg

I've also put together a LHD example with larger boot , bonnet scoop and radiused front and rear arches to house 16'' XK140 wires which may be of interest and is going to end up in Durango Colarado in the near future ..hopefully ..

Nice work Gary, good to see you are keeping busy.

molleur 19th March 2020 18:59

And, I like it too!

Lucky@LeMans 6th December 2020 15:59

I've ordered RAL 7001 Silver Grey gel coat. The bodies are finished to a very high standard and don't need to be painted. I planning to fit black wire wheels and full aluminium interior trim. I've also opted for the " early style bonnet "

swifty 6th December 2020 17:22

Where have i been.....just been reading through this thread and checking out your web site Gary, the quality of the shell looks spot on and the price i would think is appealing to many DIY’s out there.
I especially like the option parts you offer which make a build much easier whilst keeping a race car look and at a great price point to, the added videos on you tube show the cars off.

I wish you good luck and hope it becomes less stressful as time goes by, working for yourself has many good points especially if it involves something you love.

Crack on and happy building from one envious ex builder.

Lucky@LeMans 6th February 2022 10:21

I noticed Gary has updated the website and now includes details of his 236 model which appears to be selling well.

Lucky@LeMans 11th February 2023 14:39

The website link isn't working and the site appears to be down, has been for a while now. Not sure why but the facebook pages are still active and Gary appears to be regularly updating that.
Perhaps facebook is now the preferred way of doing business ? I know he gave up with this site some time ago and no longer contributes.

Mitchelkitman 11th February 2023 18:15

Not using this site may be how he chooses, but a lot of people choose not to use Facebook........ just may be worth considering other media, even if facebook is popular (at the moment)?
