Hi Dave, welcome to the fold. Cross Channel meet next year sounds good to me. If you already have a Lomax you'll fit right in with the Sammio/Ribble/Miglia crowd. Looking forward to seeing build pictures. Lots of build pictures :)

hi all just to say I have now got a tank ta dave r
|
hi all I am abit worred about tyre size is there a prob with the b/h as its a f/glass one or is it just the chassi rail car will be in france in two weeks will post pic then dave r

Dave, my tyre size is 185/65R15 on 15 inch wires which are 6J (6 inches wide)
I have had to put a 25mm sleeve on the steering rack to restrict the full lock and it doesn't hit anywhere now. the issue is with 14" or 15" rims with tall tyres (ie 80 profile) where the fronts touch on the front chassis outrigger on full lock. On my Sammio I had 15" wires with 80 profile tyres and just never went to full lock and it was fine - but I was sitting in the car doing the MOT test and never went to full lock, so MOT tester never saw it touch! The rears have plenty of clearance whatever wheels/tyres you put on (unless they are tractor tyres!!) Anyway, I am expecting also to modify the wheel arches a little on the body to accommodate the larger tyres and give me adequate clearance, and hopefully I will check that out this weekend when I get my body. I will post pictures soon. have a look at my blog (www.mymigliaspeedster.co.uk) for details of my steering rack modification. Cheers Tony |
This is where the problem lies....
http://www.mymigliaspeedster.co.uk/b...2012.25.25.jpg but bear in mind the size difference between the standard 13 inch wheels on 4.5J (4.5 inch wide) rims and my 15 inch 6J rims with 185/65 tyres.... http://www.mymigliaspeedster.co.uk/images/wheels.jpg |
hi t read your blog all the time my wheels are 14 s so I m thinking on 165/70 14 but will wait to see pic of your body on /hope you don't mind/ have you uprated your s/asorbers I have got a s/spring and uprated r/bar fuel tank/fuel /brakes lines/ barn all clean and tidy just need the car dave r:ohwell:

Hello,
I,of course, had the same problem....14inch with 165/70 tyres will fit. For the looks I would like higher tyres and if I could change things I would change the bulkhead and chassis.(maybe I will in the future) |

Since the Miglia bulkhead is back further and uses a fibreglass bulkhead it is actually a really easy answer. The problem is the inspection and I didn't want to jeopardise the registration process that we have to go through here. Dave - if you want to move the front outrigger back, then that is the easier answer and will solve any wheel/tyre issues. All you will need to do is trim the front floorpans down to match. Simples! |

Dave - I have got a Swing-spring on the back - not lowered at all yet - I will adjust when I get the body on. with the Sammio I built, I started with an 80mm lowering block on the back and ended up with 20mm so think time I will wait before I set up the rear. At the front I have the standard shocks and springs - the springs are just cut 70mm shorter for now. I have an 7/8 anti roll bar to put on as well that is in my garage awaiting painting! I figure that I want to get it on the road and then I can swap suspension parts easily if need be as everything is accessible. I had standard on the Sammio Spyder with a 1600 Vitesse 6 cylinder engine and had no problems.. I didn't race it like you will, so maybe you need to get it all uprated from the start! |
hi not going race the miglia just for show and the wife. hope to get another lomax to race so much fun so just s/shocs/stiffer r /bar idont know if my wheels are 4half 5 or 6 thay are sill in the u/k so wiil decide when thay arrive found a local tyre /f 300euro for 4 fitted dave r

Based on what troubles I (and Tony and others) had with 15's on the Sammios and the amount of cutting/welding and whackin required, I'd certainly go with 14's next time!

I'm running 175/70/14's on 4 1/2" MGB wires. I've lowered mine 75mm at the back and 90mm at the front. I didn't have any problem with the front outriggers fouling, but needed to move the bulkhead back 20mm and 'adjust' the front faces of the footwells inwards slightly with a lump hammer to get the front tyres to clear -
http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/...vidpics318.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psa990cd82.jpg The lower you go at the front the more likely the tyres are to foul the bulkhead as it's angled forwards towards the top. Phil J hasn't lowered his cars quite as much as I have and is able to use 175/80/14's without any clearance issues. http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...ps29222155.jpg I rather like the look of the taller tyres and I'm going to raise my suspension (and put softer springs on the front) over the winter so I can fit some to mine, both for the looks and to soften the ride a little, which blurs your vision on rough roads at the moment  . Although I like really low cars I don't think a slightly higher ride height spoils the Spyder shape at all. |
hi all thanks for your help lots to think about but no rush dave r
