Vintage Dante Clubman
Does anyone have any knowledge of the Dante cars built in the 1950's. They were rebodied Austin 7's. I've done some googling but there isn't very much info other than a few paragraphs about Dante Engineering and "Sporting Motorists Agency".
I'm going to have a look at one tomorrow, its a bit of a project by all accounts ! There were some photos on here posted by "Floyd" who's father owned one back in the 60's, thats about it ! |

Sure I have seen one of those recently in the last few months for sale
Quite a futuristic shape for the era I bet |
Might be the same one, I'll let you know how I get on .

They are certainly a rarity. I've just trawled through the stack of specials literature I've collected over the decades (Spencer Elton looks out for it for me :)) but not a thing. Regards, Mick |
They didn't make many. Jem Marsh of Marcos fame worked for Dante before he left and set up a rival firm Speedex, making similar go faster products for the Austin 7. Robin Read the Dante founder went on the work with Colin Chapman at Lotus.
Some of the Clubman cars were raced in the 750 series. I think the one I have found could be the only example left. |
Excellent! Good luck with it.
