Hi Chris,
Would the mistral fit the locost chassis? Front overhang (from outer tyre) = 0 inches Wheelbase = 93 inches Front wheel centre to dash = 45 inches Bulkhead to centre of rear wheel = 2 inches Rear overhang (from outer tyre) = 10 inches Width 58 inches http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?sa=X&...0&tx=125&ty=80 Cheers Mathew |
Wheelbase of the shell can be altered from approx. 83" (Triumph Spitfire) up to 90-91" (TVR's / Triumph Herald).

Any movement on this?

mistral body on locost
having aquired a mk2 mistral body the blue one with the twin intakes and a locost chassis you will out by 3 inches on the wheelbase. basically you need to add more in front of where the windscreen/aeroscreen would go which make sthe back half move backwards.

Really sorry that I haven't answered via ebay etc, very busy getting WCA's car ready for Exeter, but found the time today to put a customers untrimmed Mistral front and rear ends over my very rusty Robin Hood chassis. It has a 98" wheelbase, not 93" ..... http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4ad4ed1c.jpg and the engine that is just chucked in doesn't allow the flip front to sit at the correct level...... http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps46a30f70.jpg but it should give you an idea that the shell will work on your chassis http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0735f683.jpg http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psf6df7b16.jpg http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psb9145e69.jpg As "striker1660" says, 3" will need to be added to the rear of the bonnet, which is no problem for us to do at the lamination stage. |
Thanks chris. It looks good. I will give you a call next week.

Excellent News !!
Chris
Excellent .. this chassis next then :-) http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...psf00e9e85.png 96" wheelbase worst case. Cheers Chris |
Crossed my mind too, have you bought it from Dermot healey??
Cheers Mark |
Yup it's the Dermot chassis and he kindly got the tape measure out - it's pretty close.
Being delivered to Jo White to make up new front wishbones for a pair of Formula Ford uprights. Ford English axle is in the back of the 4x4. 1600 Crossflow engine and 2000e gearbox in the kids Wendy House ... Just need Chris to work out how to stretch the Mistral a little bit ... but I have to tell him the wheelbase first. Got some ideas on how to join the bits up ... based on the Clubmans car http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...psa0fc1171.jpg |
Fancy a body for the clubmans car....

Wrong forum :-) Finished the Clubmans but can I have a screen please :-) ?

it's a bit floppy! (tracing paper template)
Really should have bought a Mistral shell, rather than trying a scratch build in a single garage! Ah well. |
Possible Donor
I am selling my unstarted unfinished kit for a robin hood, all part are there or so I have been told, another rebody possible.

So I think the good thing about trying to combine the Mistral shell with my unknown unidentified race chassis is the mechanics will be no different to any of the Lotus 7 style chassis including the Locost.
Will post an update once the wheelbase is known and Chris has had a look to see what's what. Should be weeks not months ... famous last words ! |
