Mistral special reborn

Hi all.
My name is Dan, I have been on this forum for a while in the background but thought it was time i should introduce myself.

I work with Chris at Tribute and he has asked me to look after the mistral part of the business so I will be handling all enquires and info,

I can be contacted via pm

Today we had the first pull from the mould always very exciting :eusa_dance: it's always a race to get to work first so we can start cracking out :plane:

I will post the pics a bit later after I have learned how !!

cheers for now Dan

This is the Basic Mistral package we are offering as out of the mould after trimming. It has a 90" wheelbase and will cost £795 the body could be lengthened or shortened with relitive ease

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7e52edb0.jpg

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps308c02be.jpg

With the package in its constituent parts it's fairly compact for easy pick up or delivery 5x6x2 feet aprox

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps188b6d2b.jpg

duracell 26th February 2013 19:04

We can also supply the body glassed together for those who prefer for a small cost tbc

duracell 26th February 2013 19:37

When we fixed all the parts together and had a complete body it seemed rude not to dress our naked spitfire that we have in the yard

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1883b74e.jpg

as the spit has a shorter wheelbase we moved the front wheel to center in the arch this could be done by cutting the fiberglass bodyshell with no problem

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...psf8468f98.jpg

The spitfire we have is set up for the A352 so still has front and rear bulkheads in place as is the rest of the cut down tub

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...psf355a030.jpg

Then we started to dress the car with random bits and bobs we had in the workshop just for fun
http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps796fd22d.jpg

as time goes on we hope to be able to offer lots of extras for this body like bonnet return and bonnet, doors + hinges, windscreen, headfairing, boot opening + boot and even a roof

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7b9e71bb.jpg
thats all for now i think
cheers dan

Can you have a roof with a fly screen or do you have to have a proper windscreen?

WorldClassAccident 27th February 2013 13:31

Are you still going to be based at Chris's place (at least the molds)?

I have been thinking of getting Chris to do me a mild customisation involving an A352 front with a Mistral back and an BMW Z3 underneath.

It would be useful for me to be able to see the Mistral in the flesh (plastic?) and ideal next to an A352 to see if it is possible and mor eimportantly if it will look too wrong. I am after a car of the style of the period rather than a replica.

Down&Out 27th February 2013 18:15

As loosely asked before, is a roof going to be doable on this? there was mild talk of it!

Also, would you be able to do that aston esque grille as photoshopped in another thread?

Cheers!

Down&Out 27th February 2013 18:19

Oh just read the OP in detail, roof may be on the way, spectacular, other question of grille still stands though ;)

Hi Gary first thoughts on the hard top would be to have a glass windscreen as part of the hard top. You could then remove roof + windscreen in one and change to a fly screen using the same fixing points when the hardtop is removed on a sunny day.:rain:

Hi Nick there is nothing sinister going on the moulds will be in the tribute workshop just trying to help by splitting the workload a bit. :juggle:

Chris has told me about your project every time a z3 comes in for Mot we rush over to have a look. Steve the mot tester gets upset when we start taking the panels off the car he’s moting though.

We should have an A352 and a Mistral in the workshop by the end of next week give Chris a call. If you can’t get to us yet we will take some photos side by side for you.

What about wipers... you can see above flyscreen if it rains!:rain:

We are thinking of having the wipers and motor fixed to hard top so would just need to plug in motor when fitting the roof.

one or two of these mounted above the windscreen would do the trick:

Ha I’m a poet but I don’t know it

Links no longer there. Glass wndscreen, how do you follow contours from where the flyscren would fit? Look forward to seeing shape.

duracell 28th February 2013 20:45

sorry link now works i think. As for the hardtop we will work on the one for the A352 then apply the same idea to the mistral will upload pics when we have something to show

duracell 28th February 2013 21:18

Today we went to see Dave, he is building a lengthened A352 on a herald so we took the opportunity to try the mistral body on his chassis.

Front 3/4 view on chassis

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...psb0ebe50c.jpg

Front of chasssi fits against grill

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1eaeb0f3.jpg

Rear outrigger requiring minimal trimming

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps88cb6a6c.jpg

Side outriggers in cockpit area

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0722d3a1.jpg

As the last pic showes the body wasn't in totally the right position in terms of height. The cockpit space would be increased when the body is in the correct position. but the herald and spitfire would both for make a good base

Down&Out 28th February 2013 22:04

Perfect!

That, with a roof and an aston-esque grille and i am sold!

WorldClassAccident 2nd March 2013 07:27

D&O - that is pretty close to what I am going for but mine may have the A352 front end. What donor are you planning? I am thinking BMW Z3 for a more modern car and I need an auto.

Down&Out 2nd March 2013 17:17

Im quite a fan of old mechanics and that, i'd probably go herald or spitfire donor with a meaty engine and leave it at that!

WorldClassAccident 2nd March 2013 17:22

Don't blame you. I have a 1969 Scimitar SE5 on the drive part way through becoming a G46 which I have had to sell since snapping my foot off.

The BMW is a marriage of convenience. Reliable automatics where the gear shift wasn't total slush went that common 20+ years ago. I want something that is a little bit fun to drive, even with just two pedals.

Down&Out 2nd March 2013 20:50

Ive got a dolomite 1850 thats automatic, i can see the allure, it all depends on what sort of car it is with me!

TriBond 8th March 2013 11:17

I want one!
Buckler chassied Mistral.

cheers Dan

Looks quite good as a tail dragger

puma931 16th September 2013 14:24

Hi

Where can you order this body from, how much and what is the wheelbase?

WorldClassAccident 16th September 2013 15:49

Chris at Tribute Automotive will sort you out.

Please contact us by
email: info@tributeautomotive.com
or call 07901 544241

redratbike 17th September 2013 22:06

Have any of these been sold?

Pandora 18th September 2013 17:53

I'm working on aquiring a suitable (and period) chassis as we speak, but would want a few (very minor) mods to the body - return edges etc. Will keep you posted

Tribute Automotive 18th September 2013 22:01

New developments on the Mistral Project front.....

Looking back over this tread at the little red TVR Jomar (which uses 2 Mistral front ends) I was wondering how much work it would be to recreate the "one-off" car....

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...psbb81f289.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps65a827ba.jpg

...when I found this on Ebay. I love Ebay :bounce:

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps317a72b7.jpg

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3fb6b8f3.jpg

5 weeks until the Exeter Kit Car Show, need to start this in about 3 weeks time then!

redratbike 18th September 2013 22:19

Looks a short wheelbase?

casamolino 19th September 2013 07:15

Early TVR?

garyh 19th September 2013 08:27

Is it a Taimar?

AcC8braman 19th September 2013 11:22

3000s

Down&Out 19th September 2013 12:08

Sneaky! ive been looking on ebay for those, are you going to make a kit with a roof using that TVR body then? very very interested!

Tribute Automotive 19th September 2013 21:06

It's a TVR GRANTURA MKIV body shell. If you compare the door shape, bulkhead, lower front wing and front lower part rear arch with the "Jomar" car you will see that they are exactly the same.

Here are some interesting TVR/Jomar history links:

http://www.jomar-cars.com

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TVR

http://www.tvrblog.com/jomar-the-third-tvr

My idea is to "recreate" this car:

http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...ps65a827ba.jpg

using the TVR shell and the Mistral front mould that we have. I have the doors and wheels already, just a few bits of trim to collect...

Pandora 19th September 2013 21:56

and a consul classic low line screen, if you fancied making a coupe!
Are you using a TVR chassis too?
