T series turbo clutch
Hi guys.
Just wondered whether the guys that have the turbo on the road, if the clutch has eased a bit. Mine is very hard on the left foot. I think it's due to the cable running down the centre tunnel with all the bends. Was toying with the idea of going hydrolic. Was thinking of starting with this master cylinder. http://www.nfauto.co.uk/master_cylinders.htm The getting the pipe and ends made up. Slave and bits from a 600/800. |

I had a hydraulic clutch on my previous kit car useing the 2L T series. If I remember rightly, the master and slave for that engine were the larger size bore, which is supposed to make the pedal lighter, so make sure whichever you buy, will be suitable. The master I used was from a leyland daf van, which I got off e bay. As far as the ends, are concerned, I went to my local gargage who for the price of a pint or two, made off the ends. Alternatively, you can buy the tools quite cheeply, around £15, maybe less. Steve |
Cheers for that Steve.
What did you use to connect end to end? Hydraulic hose? Hmm the bore size. Will have a look around and might even pinch one for an 800 or 600. Hopefully I won't have to change the pedel. |
clutch
The only way to go is hydraulic, I retrofitted hydraulic clutch to mine which was a bit of a pain working under the dash. I used 620 master and standard slave.
I removed pedal box and cut off clutch pedal section, I picked up one fixing from bottom left servo stud and drilled and fixed second lower hole. The other end of the pivot was supported by made up bracket. I have servo fitted which prevents master cylinder being fitted high enough up the pedal which is why the pedal has to be lowered. The pivot point for the pedal should be approx 1" from master cylinder push rod giving you approx 5/6 to 1 pedal ratio. The hydraulics do not give you any mechanical advantage, it is purely pedal ratio and slave cylinder arm length. If the pedal ratio is incorrect say 3 to 1 you will still have very heavy pedal and very short travel. I also reinforced bulkhead with 5mm ally plate just to be sure. I advise anybody building to go the hydraulic way before fitting bodywork etc, the cable system is total crap. good luck Brian |
I concurr that the cable way is bad.
Marlinturbo's seems to need constant adjustment. |
Cheers Brian.
I'm at the stage where I can get at the pedal box (dash and windscreen not fitted). So that's my next job. Any chance Brian you could send me some pictures of the pedal and how you fixed it with a digi camera? I need to change the gearbox end as well as mine is from a coupe turbo (cable). Was yours Brian hydraulic from your 800 donor? Also did you use the pedal from your 800 or a 200?side Hoping I just need to change the cable arm section from the inside of box. Think the clutch kit is ok I fitted though I think I need a different release bearing. |
Switch to a hydraulic clutch.
The first issue on the T series cable clutch is that the plastic adjuster at the pedal will slip...leaving you with no clutch. To get around this for now I got hold of another plastic adjuster, cut both in half and use good quality hose clips to compress both adjusters onto the clutch cable casing. Even with this I find I have to adjust it slightly every 100 miles... HTH guys. John |
Cheers John.
Will convert to hydraulic. Will pop to the breakers the weekend for bits.:) |
Hi
You need the slave cylinder off a 620Ti ideally. |

I've just returned off holiday, will try and get some photos asap. Brian. |
Hi Brian.
Cheers mate. That would be great. I managed to get hold of a 600 TI clutch pedal assembly completed. Great that it's separate assembly from the other pedals. Will wait to see how you mounted the assemby where the hole is now. Was thinking of using the 600 pedal (as it has the hole for the master cylinder and spring). But will need the pedal cut and welded by a good friend.:) What pedal did you use Brian? |

John,
e mailed pics. If you can post pics that would be great. Cheers Brian. |
