They are both neat, but I think the understated black looks much more 40s and 50s, and I'd opt for it for that reason.

That's a generic reference to the Spitfire 1500 engine. FM was the prefix and HE the suffix. There would normally be digits in between. It certainly doesn't refer to the engine that you have.
