How about fitting the front numbe rplate in the front grill?
Normal size for the mot and a small one for everyday use.
I used to have a small magnetic flexible number plate (no good for you) on my E-type, trouble was at speed it used to slide up the bonnet and when it hit the bulge would fly off so I just used to leave it inside the car (not on show in the window), I was never pulled once and it used to be a daily driver.
Just couldn't bring myself to stick a number plate on the bonnet after the car had had a bare metal respray.
If I was to do the same with a Citroen Saxo or Corsa I think I would be given a tug every few miles.

Fit the small plate and keep the standard in the boot, you could always attach it with zip ties if you get a tug, unlikely to get a fine on a first offence.
