Agree with 'Pops comments above, received wisdom is to have the car inspected with no bits of chassis missing. I got the feeling that the Peterborough inspector who looked at mine wouldn't have made an issue of it if I had cut 6" off the boot riggers, but you never know...
As for the DVLA centres, Peterborough and Poole both know what they're dealing with when you present them with a Sammio, so I'd recommend you make the journey to one of those. But be quick, I believe the Govt are planning to move all the inspections to Swansea and close the local offices.
