Default Registering a kit car in Ireland

Hi there.
Hope someone can help or have been in the same situation.
Last year I bought a Robin Hoos Super 7. All winter my "mechanic" has "beefed it up" and now I need to have it registered here. It came form UK and still have the UK platres. I have the DVLA paper "Certificate of permanent export) so that's OK. The "year of first registration" states 1984, and that is probably the year of the "donor car" (Sierra I guess) and the engine, a 2.0 l Pinto, number (EL) states is from 1984 (September). Now I went to the VRO in Ireland and the guy said it could not be 1984, because Robin Hood did not manufacture this model before 1989, and he is right. I have been in contact with DVLA several times, but this is how they do it, take it or leave it, it works in other foreign countries they say.
Has anybody, in Ireland, been in the same situation??
Best regards
Peter.
