yep, Peter's right. I had mine on the top of the rear wing and in the normal place on the scuttle. It failed because the ones on the scuttle were obscured by the rear wing and the one on the top of the rear wing was too far from the front of the vehicle. I also failed for having two per side where as it must be one and one only. Both my examiners recommended mounting them on the front wing as you originally suggested to be on the safe side though I did get by the second time by putting them in the location shown on the photo Peter posted. If you mount them on the outside top of the front wing, they will be visible even on lock though they shouldn't test it like that. Trouble is they make the rules up as they go.
