I was looking through your photos and noticed you have used sealant on the fuel filler. I hope this doesn't react like SikaFlex when in contact with petrol. Sikaflex partly dissolves and turns into runny slime and blocks up everything in the fuel system. I found out the hard way on my Robin Hood 7 many years ago. Had to replace the fuel lines , flush out the tank and rebuild the carb , nightmare !
Please check with the sealant manufacturer before its too late!

Worried.....
I just copied what Hurnleft did:
For me the tech specs don't really tell me much other than its probably alright...any other views?
Looks like this isn't good enough for areas that touch fuel, however as the aluminum pipe is a push fit and the sealant is around the outside edges, the amount of liquid petrol that touch it will be absolutely minimal if any at all, also the tight fit of the pipe wont allow it to go into the tank either, so looks like it should be ok all things considered, I am sad to hear of the trouble you had, can you (Lucky@Lemans) confirm that the issue you had was where the petrol liquid came in contact with the PU18 or equivalent, or did you just use it to seal the pipes so no gas vapour came out like me.
Thanks.

Nearly there, just have to remove and reposition some extra parts from front end to get the front section down to correct position.

On the robin Hood I had to make a seal between the filler neck ( plastic tube) and the rough edge of the stainless fuel tank. I was quite generous when applying the Sikaflex to make a bead about 1/2" thick around the joint. On that tank there were no baffles so the petrol could slop around . I could only assume that is when petrol would come into contact with it. I replaced the Sikaflex with a proper fuel resistant doughnut type O ring seal in the end.

Eric; you grinded off way too much fiberglass of the bonnet mouthopening. I think you will have issues to fit the grill neatly....

Eric - I just had a look at Bob/Hurnleft's build and found this photo.
Your bonnet looks very similar and you can see the extra grille surround piece on the floor.
So perhaps mobilerobbie thinks you have ground this piece down, whereas I assume you haven't fitted it yet.
Hope that helps, Paul.

Yep that could be the reason as I have that part still boxed and can only fit when I know the gap behind the front once I have removed the fan etc.

More adjustment to the front end today means that I get get the bonnet all the way down and locked, just some adjustments to do to line it up.

As always loads more photos on: https://www.flickr.com/photos/134265488@N05
Also went to Newark Autojumble today and got lots more lovely parts for the build, can you believe I bumped in to Hurnleft!
And there was a red tribute MX5 250 GTO there, what were the odds!

I've lots of electrics and tinkering to do before I get to the doors, also take rear-end off and refit, specifically getting the Fuel cap and filling fitting correct so the body goes flush.....Also not sure how the door skins go on? I know there is lots more fiddling to do with locking systems, so getting a lot more done before attempting that. Will start listing lots of parts on ebay now to clear some space.

Good to see you today Andy, hope you found some other useful parts as well as the spot lights.
Due to head gasket troubles on my other car, I should be jamming some camping gear into the 250 and going to Ipswich for the Street Rod Nationals this coming Bank holiday weekend. Well worth a day out on the Sunday (public day) with several hundred hot rods, customs, American cars and even a lookalikeish Ferrari!
Cheers, Bob.
