Default z3 engine options is it worth it

Z3 2L and upwards are getting harder to pick up without spending a mint for a good one with service history not needing any work . Although buying a better car works out in the long run selling off not needed body panels in good nick have covered most of the car in the first place. so are the 1.9 realy that bad, I live in a student area most of it is 20mph is the bang worth the buck. has anyone sold a 1.9 with a kit on and had problems selling it cus it was a 1.9.

My understanding of the smaller 1.9 engine is that its ok if it has low mileage and has been looked after. The higher mileage ( re cheap ) cars and likely kit donors are somewhat unreliable.
If you can find a low mileage car that's got some service history at the right money then you might be ok.
IMO I would rather search out a six cylinder car and pay a bit more. Like you said , much of the donor car cost will be recovered when you sell the unwanted parts.

Or fit a supercharger/turbo to the 1.9 ha ha

I think the idea behind a 6pot donor most of the time is to have the noise and power to back up the image of the car

I have a car dealer friend who sells site a few Z3's. He will only buy in 2.8 or 3.0, the others he says are always a challenge to sell on so won't touch them even if they are ridiculously cheap.
