V5 Mx5 Model; Name Change
Hi all, Has everyone named their MX250 as just that on the V5
Or tried their luck with more unusual / one off perhaps.
What is the general concensus ?

I did a Z300S and registered it as a BMW Z300S Barchetta.
It came back as something different but after 2-3 attempts and many hours arguing with people at the DVLA who kept contradicting each other and themselves it was finally registered as that.
I think as long as you get a letter from Chris confirming that you bought a kit called what ever you want to register the ar as then you should be okay.

Hi Nick, thanks for that.
My letter from Chris def states Mx250 , so guess thats that.
Didnt think to ask for something different .
Reckon will be happy with with Mx250 .
Does it have to have Mazda as a Pre-fix (Make) ?

The make has to stay as the real make. The model can change, perhaps Chris can send you another letter?

No no , best not push my luck .
Do these "changes" go on the front page of the V627/1 form or is it the donor original name in that section ?

Yep, missing them wife cried when the new buyer took it away ( all the way to Germany) only sold it to help with new house purchase. There will be a new build soon , thinking a swb, unless I can find a good mx5 donor, with turbo or serious modded engine .
All I have now is photos and memories 😔

Ahhh, Least you will have your wife on board for the next one, which is half the battle.
Yes its a shame the Mx5 based cars (std 4 engines) aren't taken as serously as the 6 cyl Bmw based ones.

Well.....Got my new V5 back from Swansea, impressed with the turnaround less than 2 weeks . Model name not quite what i hoped for/ stated on the changes section, but at least it's done and correctly registered .
V5 now says Mazda Tribute MX250 ......Which is what it is, I guess !!!
And another job to tick off the never ending list

Did you send any extra info other than the letter from Chris ie photos before and after, your own covering letter etc ?
What changes didn't happen or were different to what you expected ?
Only asking as I'm about to go through the same process.

Hi, Yes i sent before and after photo's , the completed V 627/1 form and rightly or wrongly i enclosed Chris @Tribute original flyer showing the kit of panels and description of conversion.
All the changes happened ie colour , model and convertible to coupe, i just didn't quite get the "model" name i put on form and V5.
I think Dvla used the Full name of the Kit on my V5 (taken from Chris's Flyer) rather than " Mazda 250 GTO) which i wrote on the model change.
But i am pleased / relieved to have got it done as there is this change to modified vehicles happening supposedly in May this year , which i don't think affects our conversions but you never know.
Perhaps 250 GTO was being a bit cheeky ...he he he

Mine is
Make Tribute California
Model Sports
No mention of BMW anywhere, I think they make the rules up as they go along but to be fair the V5 came back in a week.

Morning all,
Interested in this as I'll be going through the process in the next couple of months or so.
Does the car need a current MOT and road tax for the re-designation??
If not can the name change occur whilst the car is in build, ie the body fitted so they can see the end result, but no interior??
Thanks
Steve.

I don't think you MOT or Tax and you don't need a picture of the interior.
Before and after pictures with numberplate showing. A picture halfway through the build is a good idea as well.
