The man from the MOT station he say...
Failed
I could kick myself, it failed on a couple of cheap parts that I reused from the donor - a leaky rear brake cylinder and a split steering rack gaiter. Both items were inspected before fitting, but that was nearly two years ago and I guess they've both failed during the build process.
Oh well, will be placing an order for the parts needed and should get a pass certificate next week. Until then, I hope you like the pictures of the (nearly) finished article.

Never mind, did you have a good drive, getting there? Silver looks really good, is the grill white?

Cor, that looks great. I particularly like the front detailing. You've achieved that "developed on track" look. Brilliant.

Thanks guys, parts now ordered so should be fitted within a week.
Grille is white and mirrors are quite useful to see what's behind you.
Drive to MOT station was seven miles on a main road. Rather blustery at 60mph - need to drop the seat a little - but quite a thrill.
It got rather a lot of admiring looks including from a chap in a new Aston Martin who did a double take as we passed by each other. From the look on his face I reckon he's kicking himself for blowing enough to buy a modest house on a new Aston when he could have had one of these and trousered over a hundred and twenty grand change.
It runs very smoothly and tracks and stops arrow straight. Even the notoriously weak Triumph handbrake passed the G test (just). The speedo seems to be reading accurately as it read pretty much at the speed limits as I drove in traffic (forgot my sat nav as I was going to check it) but the tachometer is useless. The needle just points randomly round the dial wavering about, at one point it was showing 7,000 rpm at 50mph in fourth.
Looking forward to giving it a proper shake down next week...

Only two minor fixes.
I'd think that was a brilliant result. Congrats.

Mr T - Hard luck on the MOT fail.
But as you say, just two fixes and you are good to go.
And the plus side is that the car looks absolutely fantastic!!!
Good luck, Paul.

Thanks for the support everyone. The thingy next to the nearside mirror is a shark fin aerial. Bit of an unnecessary frippery at the moment as 1/ rather surprisingly the car didn't actually break down so I didn't need anything to listen to at the roadside whilst waiting for the RAC (but I made sure I had my membership card and a fully charged mobile phone anyway), and 2/ the wireless doesn't seem to be working, it lights up but isn't sending any sound to the speakers. I guess I've dislodged a connection while fitting it. It's on my 'to do' list together with finishing off flatting and polishing the paintwork and setting up the engine properly.
I am pleased with the way it looks though.

A couple of minors Mr T, you'll soon put those right and the good thing is you now know the rest is as good as it looks. Can't wait to see it in the flesh!

Thanks Zebre, I'm as pleased as a dog with two tails.
Headlamps are P700 replicas using modern bulbs, also available for left hand drive applications -

I'm watching progress on your Sammio Deux Chevaux Vapeur with interest. Do you have a date when you hope to finish?
