I totally agree with what's been said about the creases, it looks.... authentic! and if you hadn't pointed out that it was a flaw, i wouldn't have known
I had the same sort of thoughts/doubts about my paint finish on the Sammio, but everyone who saw it thought it was perfect as it looked period and i reckon you'll get the same with this.

Thanks for the support Dave, I do appreciate it.
Like I said to redratbike, I really do feel better about the way they look.
Perhaps we all get a bit self-critical, and start striving for perfection, when perfection is not really needed.
I suppose we have to try hard though, otherwise we'd get nowhere!

Scottie - The seats and seat belts look great.
Obviously you will notice everything that is not quite perfect / how you planned it / etc. as you have spent ages planning and building it.
But everyone else is going to see an old, classic, Jaguar.
Especially the people at the Triumph owners club when you try to tell them it is a Spitfire.
Good luck, Paul.

Seat belt fine tuning
Well the Demon Tweaks seat belt pads arrived, and I put them on (before the intended mods) just to see how naff they looked.
And as I thought, they did.
I am sure Demon tweaks meant well, but it just didn't work for a classic Jag.
So I went ahead and did the mods.

Loving the home-made seats and harnesses Scottie.
Are you putting any kind of grommet in the alloy slots where the harnesses come out? I'd worry that they might cut through if you don't.
Mine has a similar arrangement but they come out through rounded slots in 6mm thick ply rather than thin alloy, so I've suffered no chaffing of me straps (ooh, Matron).

I'll keep a good check on that area Mr T.
I have kind of polished the edges a bit, but re-making that centre section would only take me half an hour to do,and 5 minutes to swap, so I'm not overly worried really. (Centre section of seat belt I mean)
I certainly do appreciate you concern though!
Looking at your car in those pictures makes me smile! They look awful under their clothes don't they!!
All rough metal, wood and junk! Mine's just the same.

Rough metal, wood and junk! The cheek of it! I'll have you know most of that's top quality budget brand automotive filler.
You're right though, mine has more than a few rough edges hidden just beneath the surface, but it has most people fooled from the outside though, and I'm sure yours will too.

Floor tread plates
I wanted to try to hide, or disguise the steel chassis rail thing that goes across the floor under the knees. Try to make it less "Spitfire looking".
I also wanted a good solid area to put the feet on when getting in and out of the car, in order to avoid treading on the seats to do so.
I came up with a solution, I made two alloy tread plates, which do both jobs well. They obviously take your full weight, and just lift straight out in order to remove the seats if required. (They are well braced underneath)
When all the side alloy is in place, they will look much neater than they do now.
The footwell looks to be 3 inches lower, which is not a bad thing.
The finished effect will be that the car is made from aluminium, which is what I wished it was made from!!

Colour
I've been looking at different XKS'S to see what colour looks best, and what I should choose,
Here is what I've looked at so far,

Cannot make up my mind, I think perhaps the darker British Racing Green might be best......

The red seats will look fantastic with brg. IIRC Racing C and D types were painted Jaguar Connaught Green (as were Racing Astons at the time)
Edited. I could have imagined that. A quick google shows Connaught to be a very dark green

No Contest
Hi Scottie
Ecurie Ecosse blue is clearly favourite for a Scottie, not that I'm biased, as mine will be that colour .

Colour
Will look forward to seeing your car Mick, it should look fabulous in that solid colour!
It is looking a bit like my car will not be ready for the show,
Will you have your car at Stoneleigh?

Scottie - It is no big deal if you miss this year's show, as your attention to detail will make this a "stand out" car at the 2015 show.
E.g. The seat belt labels and tread plates are up to your usual high standard.
Picking the right shade of BRG is tricky, just remember that the daylight here might be a bit duller than some of the places those photos were taken.
Mind you if you do pick the "dark" BRG it might look like you have two cars...
A black one on dull days & a dark green one on sunny days.
Good luck, Paul.

You are worrying about the shade? This car is going to look good in any classic period colour - from "Sterling Moss' Underpants White" to "Mike Hawthorn's Socks Black". You can't lose.

Seconded.
I'm in the 'green cars are bad luck' camp myself*, so a Jag would have to be Ecosse blue for me too.
Or silver...
*History of this superstition below, plus a clip of a green tuk tuk driver disproving the theory, or did he cause the crash... -
