Another Newbie

Hi folks.

Been lurking a while since I registered a couple of weeks ago. No kit car yet but considering taking the plunge before I am too old to get into one.

Haven't got a feel for the kit market yet - most offerings seem to be pretty expensive for what's on offer if Ebay is anything to go by. Looks like I may have to start from a pile of steel tubes and work from scratch, but I think I'd prefer to sort out something already started that's Triumph based as I do at least know a little about Heralds and Vitesses.

Welcome to the forums Mudhut

I've got the paper plans for a Burlington Berreta - don't know if I'll ever get round to doing it but think I would get a lot of satisfaction out of building something from pretty much scratch (fabricating the panels etc). Plus the end result can be pretty fine (see below)

Dont know who's this particular car is but it is a mighty fine example of what can be done - took the pic at Stoneleigh 2002 I think.

That's a great car in the pic - just my sort of thing. Doubt if it would pass SVA if newly built as shown though. I'm assuming here that only an unmodified Triumph chassis would make it SVA exempt. This car looks to have had at least part of the front of the chassis cut off. Have I got this right?

An alternative might be an old RMB Gentry or a new AWE Pintail/Redwing.

I'll will keep an eye out for Burlington building plans - it's a better looking car than the Gentry.

The chassis IS standard Triumph

The front is ‘vacant’ because the engine has been moved back in the chassis. A simple task

involving swapping the engine mountings left for right. They lean forward in their correct position, so when swapped the engine moves back by about 18”.

Isn’t that music to your ears
