Default wishbone bushes

Hi All,

I know there has been a lot written about wishbone bushes but, having just collected my replacement wishbones from Marlin I am about to fit the bushes. its not something I have done before and I would just like some advice about the do's and donts and any techniques - or should I just take them to a shop and get them pressed in for me!

Thanks - John

They rubber original fiesta bushes? If so then use washing up liquid as lube and press them in carefully with a big vice - should pop right in

yes they are the rubber bushes with rubber flanged ends - certainly ford, I have a big vice. I was worried about what happens if they "hang up", I have had this happen before (not with wishbones)

I 'wind' mine in with some threaded bar through the middle and a mixture of large sockets and washers, etc. each end. I just use cheap M10 threaded bar from Wickes and it's cheap enough to throw away afterwards as it usually is only good for one or two goes. Grease the nuts and threaded bar to make it easier to wind in. Wrap the wishbone ends in masking tape to stop the powder coating being scratched or chipped.
I found silicone grease quite useful for making the bushes slippery, but I'm sure washing up liquid is as good.

BTW, you should use the rubber bushes on the lower joints and polybushes on the the upper ones. I found Superflex bushes much better made than the cheaper bushes around. The Superflex bushes come with the recommended lubricant as well

Thanks for all the help boys. I failed on my first one because of lack of lube. I tried copper grease and CV grease but washing up liquid did the trick!
