I'll be interested to hear the outcome of your visit. It may be worth asking Mark how the latest variation on the steering column mounting secures the lower end of the column to the firewall / front bulkhead.

I can't remeber whether I posted his answer to me. He said " we don't provide any sort of clamp. Just stick it thru the hole and if it rattles too much put some rubber or something round the column"....................

Have a good day tomorrow.

Picked up chassis today. Still a number of parts on back order to be sent on later but the main awkward bit is out of the way and she's up on stands in the garage.

Kevin clarified the UJ issue. The part to be used is the lower end that originally connected to the rack just you both said. He said they're having to re-design the extension piece to accommodate this as it currently has a locating dowel sticking out of the end but the BMW part no longer has a hole to accept it. Not a problem as that's one of the outstanding parts anyway. I don't think anything has changed in terms of locating the column itself. I was looking at it and I think the best solution is to get the whole thing set up loosely and then get some sort of collar welded to the column that can then be bolted to the hole in the chassis. basically the same as what Nigel has done but with a permenant weld instead of the jubilee clip.

I've posted up some photos on Flickr as I think there are a number of very minor changes in the chassis from the other E36 builds I've been following

Congratulations or your new aquisition.

This is where the fun really starts!! I'll follow your build on Flikr so we can compare notes.

Best of luck. That garage is going to become your second home and a very familiar placeover the coming months

Ian,
great to see another fresh chassis out of the factory and your build can now really start!
I see some more interesting chassis changes even since Nigel's only a few months ago.

Any other news from Marlin?
Did you get a pictures of the current factory Sportster build?
Any news of the infamous new folding hood?

So common, what's the first part you are going to bolt on, eh?

Enjoy your build!!
