Results from the weekend progress, engine timing belt changed, engine cleaned and painted, new stainless header fitted and the front body and suspension underneath all shulzt/waxoiled.
Just need nice crome induction kit, and to sort out lambda sensor which the boss on the new exhaust looks to be to short and the sensor is bottoming out on the side of the exhaust.

Default Finally ready for Paint

Well its been a while since I last posted anything, but all I have been doing is sanding sanding and more sanding so pictures of dust not that interesting. But finally got it ready for paint.

Finally decided on the colour scheme as the gulf racing colours so blue and orange, but slightly darker blue than the original colour scheme. Only going to get the blue colour on this year then finish off next spring. But will build it up over winter and try and get it MOT.

Thanks mazdarazmataz, it's been a lot of problem solving to get things to work and making them look right but finally getting there just need to get everything fitting again with the paint on, here's some photos of the first colour coats.

Fantastic! I'd be tempted to leave it alone and not complete the
Gulf livery.

Looks like a great job for a home sprayer. Are you using cellulose?

You must go for the full Gulf paint scheme. I did a Cafe Racer in the colour scheme and it was amazing the attention it got.

It had crossed my mind to do it on the 250 but a Ford paint scheme on a replica Ferrari didn't seem right.

It did make me think if to leave it as it does look good it the colour but I think it will look even better in gulf, and not really followed the replica route with the fuel filler and other bits.

It is painted in cellulose and the first time I ever have spayed a car, but did get guided by a mate who use to restore cars.

The Gulf scheme is the wrong era for the car though? Your car your way, of course, but can't help but think it looks superb as it is. Some black and silver detailing would really set if off.

Loving that colour - well done on the home spray.

Gives us all hope that we can do a DIY job

Default Gulf colour scheme

Here are a couple of pictures of a Thunderbird I did a few years back. Got so many compliments about the colour scheme. I had two sets painted up, the bike got sold but I have another complete set to be fitted to another bike when time allows.

LOVE that blue Nick. And a cracking job for a home paint. I had gone off the idea of a home paint job (scared) and have gone back to a paint shop. However you are making me re-think AGAIN! Top job mate.

Here's latest pics of the build with wheels and lights on. Just got to fit the new exhaust and window screen then early next year off for the MOT fingers crossed.

Appreciate all the good comments glad that every body is liking the colour it was a hard dissension in paint shop looking at all the swatch’s and trying to decide the right colour. Can't wait till next spring to finish off the paint.

The car is looking fab. Great colour choice !

Agree on the lights. Love the rears as they do set it off. The side repeaters are off a mini ?

Anyone else spend a lot of their journeys looking at light options for their creations ? I seem to look at rear fog lights and wing mirrors - a lot.

Hi All

Thought I best give an update on the build of the MX250, as I can see you are all getting on with your builds in the last couple of months after the winter hibernation.

I have been doing the final fitting of the bits and pieces that need to fit to the car in ready for the final coats of paint once it gets warm enough. Number plate's fitted so that I can get it registered ready for the MOT.
Have had to strip the front end of the engine down again today after discovering that the crank shaft oil seal had decided to give up and start leaking oil.So after today is to strip it all down again and prep for final coats of paint, and fit new front screen as it has cracked.

Nick – Saw you post this photo on another thread and thought I would add it here.
( One of these days I will also update the Useful Links thread with more finished car photos too. )

As your car looks great.

Enjoy, Paul.
