The bolts have now been welded into the small holes in the wheels and the backs sanded smooth.

The first of the spinner towers and wheels sprayed a flat silver and the Campagnolo sticker fitted. Just need a coat of satin lacquer over them.

3 more to go then get some tyres for them.

I originally thought I'd have them blasted and powder coated but to keep costs down, stick with my 'old race car' plan and mindful of my wife's words "don't build another show car because you won't use it much if you do", paint will be fine.

Cheers, Bob.

Very nice Bob, Iv'e got my spinners on order, due to arrive any day now and a fixing method I have devised once I had slept on it, like you suggested, however I have a front wheel issue in terms of height availability from centre of wheel to bottom spring mounting plate, the only way I can think of clearing it is by having a 2" spacer but this would not be an ideal solution. Of course to fit a high walled tyre on 235/65/17. Any other suggestions welcome...... there seems to be around 5-10mm of space between it and the tread of the tyre.....

Updated - Ok, after extensive research on the web for around 1/2 hour it looks like coil overs are needed and they have a smaller spring to allow larger wheel/tyre combos, however will drop the front by 20mm (TA Technix), I dont want it dropped any though :-(

New wheels and tyres fitted this morning. A quick ride down the road and nothing has come loose or fallen off so I guess that jobs done.

Cheers, Bob.

Thanks for your comments gents. You're right Geoff, it's the best colour and by coincidence, the same colour as yours!

The wheels have been a big step forward in loosing the modern look. !7" wheels may still not suit everybody but that's the beauty of these cars, they are all being built differently.

My neighbours barely notice my cars as I've owned a variety of weird stuff over the years and this one is very tame in comparison to some.

Cheers, Bob.

Very nice to see the wheels on, I know the effort you have gone to on getting them how you want them I like the chrome spinners they certainly do help give it the 'older' style look.

Bob I am a massive fan of those wheels, period look with a modern spin (pun not intended)

Are you going to drop it an inch?

I think for a period look the ride height is spot on.

Bob, how much has it already been lowered and how did you achieve that?
Steve

It's had a full Spax adjustable lowering kit with new springs & shock absorbers. It sits about 40-50mm lower.
It does need care over some speed humps but is generally fine.

Cheers, Bob.

Measuring the lowering effect of coil overs...

Before = 1 beer bottle

After = 1 beer mat

Front end only and wife doesn't look over impressed

That looks great Nick but how much trouble you have with ramps and speed bumps?

Perfect frickin timing. This happened 20 minutes ago. One of those speed humps that sits in the middle of the road rather than going right across. 30mph and bent the exhaust backwards so much it is behind the tyre!

I'm just back from a long weekend at the Hot Rod Supernationals at Old Warden in Bedfordshire. A fantastic weekend of lovely weather, lovely cars and great company.

Dust was the main issue for those who like to polish but I loved the grubby look so left it on. The reception the car got was amazing. I wasn't sure if hot rodders would poo-poo it but I lost count of the number of times I got stopped and asked about it.

I'd also removed the flash lines and roughly cut out the wing vents last week.

With a couple of club mates cars

Parked up

On the way back

Cheers, Bob.

Looking good Bob, nice to see you out and about enjoying your car. Event looks to be well attended - I'll have to make the effort to go next year.
