Default prop shaft

As many know I have an e36 engine in the e30 chassis.Thus the prop joins an 36 gearbox to an e30 diff.Of course nothing is simple and the flanges are different.I had to use an e36 2.5 d prop to the front and an e30 prop to mate the rear.Thankfully when I separated the shafts the splines matched so a hybrid was born. I have shortened the rear part of the prop to make it fit. The wheels now spin successfully.Question,how important is the balancing, and should I now just remove this and have one made to order using this as a template with flanges etc.

I would defiantly get it balanced.

As for having a new one made based on your template, I see no reason why your custom made one shouldn't work fine as long as its strong and well balanced!

How did you shorten it? Did you cut and re-weld it? If so, unless you are 101% confident about your welding I would get it professionally done.

In the bad old days of kit cars when there was much more DIY I believe there were a few "Accidents" caused by DIY prop shortening.

Even if you are confident about your welding and the alignment I would get it balanced. A small amount of unbalance can cause a lot of vibration/force when it is going round at 7000 RPM!

All IMHO of course!
