Default FAO Peterux: Rad mounting bits

Peter,

You don't remember the part numbers of the rubber mounts (top & bottom) you used on your radiator, do you?

Now that I've got the same rad as you, I'll be needing the same bits as the old ones from the donor where perished and got thrown out, and RealOEM isn't showing the same radiator as I had in the donor.

Cheers,

Jason

Jason, no, I don't remember! But I do remember that I bought them new from BMW. (I might have a reciept somewhere?)

Looking at my ETK disc tonight I reckon these are the part numbers
Rubber Grommet 17 11 1 117 442
Spacer sleeve 17 11 1 117 441
The bolt is M6x30 and an ordinary locknut. I think the washers were B&Q or Focus (they do lots of nice washers!)

I think I just got the grommet and spacer tube from BMW.

If I find a receipt, i'll post an update.

cheers

Peter

new Update
*********

found the BMW dealer reciept......

The grommet number above is correct (they cost 43p each!)

I didn't buy the spacer tube, so must have made that myself.

If you're interested, the rubber mounting feet are 17 11 1 150 984 (68p each)
and the radiator screw on cap is 17 11 4 379 047 (£8.60)

I miss all my visits to my BMW dealer for my bags of washers

If you fancy making some alternative brackets you can actually mount the radiator slightly higher and a bit further back which should improve the airflow a bit. I wasn't happy with the standard Marlin position where a good 25% of the rad was obscured by the close proximity of the front crossmemeber.

Mine looks like this:

I'll chuck in the third option! - custom mounts with a layer of chassis sealer as a damper:

Moves the rad higher up and gives room to run oil lines in front of it:

On a side note, I notice two cars, including the one on the stand at marlin, at stoneleigh this year had the original 325i rad mounted but turned through 90 degrees!

Thanks for the other options guys.

Peter - another quick question. When you put your flywheel and clutch back on, you mention that you changed the pivot bearing. Are these the parts you mean:

Code:
08 GROOVED BALL BEARING 12X32X10 1 11211709681 $8.59
09 COVERING PLATE 1 11211744345 $0.56
10 FELTRING 1 11211744601 $0.59
11 COVERING CAP 1 11211744342 $1.12

Jason

Ta,

Jason,
yup, that's the one. Pretty sure i bought mine from GSF who call it a Spigot bearing. It was just a pretty ordinary looking bearing with no felt pad etc.
In theory, to get the old one out, you pack the bearing hole with ordinary grease and drive a drift down the hole to drive out the old bearing. I think this had limited success so I had to resort to the 'old screwdriver and hammer' technique!

cheers,

Peter
