Unfortunately I'm just getting problems now, drove the car home again today and that damn rear wheel arch supports came off again - it's starting to get annoying now!!
I'm gonna have to arrange to have it taken back on a truck to try and get it fixed again

Sorry to hear you are having a problem again. Who made them? Are they Locost or Caterham? Have you identified what is causing it, are they constantly under stress or just too flimsy? Hope you get it sorted so you can enjoy driving the car. Has the paint dried out yet? Good luck!

The arch supports my mechanic made are fine - it's the tabs that they are attached to that are spot welded to the rear brake drums that keep snapping off - I think the hubs might have to come off and get the tabs welded better. They feel strong but on a short journey over a few pot holes is enough to shake them to breaking point again

Paint is getting better, slowly. And grille is fitted (badly) how's yours coming along?

Hopefully, re-welding the tabs will work for you - fingers crossed! My idea of using a marquee as a temporary garage didn't turn out well. The wind got up and the extra pressure broke two of the corner connectors. We are now going to build a car port instead so work on the car has stalled a bit. I did buy an A/F socket set and spanners at the local auction so am better equipped than before. I had given all of my A/F and Whitworth kit away a few years ago when I sold my old Royal Enfield motorbike. I did manage to remove the shrouds which direct the air to the radiator on the Spitfire and the anti-roll bar but am having trouble getting one of the drop links to surrender. I've been doing a bit of research about how to alter the suspension height front and back if I need to without spending a fortune. Did you need to lower yours and if so, how was it done? I've also been looking at the way to adjust the alignment of the rear suspension and was wondering if the original tie rods could be used by cutting them in half, cutting a bit out of the length, cutting a right hand thread on one of the end and left hand thread on the other then using a turnbuckle to re-join them and provide adjustment of the length with nuts to lock them in place. It seems a better way than using shims and the mounting could then be welded to the chassis not bolted. What do you think?

Hmm, not sure about the suspension stuff - as mine had already had those bits done when I got it. I did once buy a lowered front spring from 'Jigsaw racing' - it may be worth discussing options with them - they are the experts

My friend has started building the car port for me to work in. It's a bit rough and ready but I'm glad to have it. I spent today removing the rear suspension and drive shafts etc. It doesn't half take a lot of time and effort to achieve comparatively little! This is what the rear end looks like now.

Loving that grill. Hope you sort out the rear wing once and for all. That car deserves to be driven. By its owner

Cheers,
the grille is slightly wonky at the moment, I may need to fiddle with the mountings a bit to get it right,

yeah I have it re-booked in next week to get the arch mountings re-done, so hopefully they can sort it properly this time

It wasn't very difficult just took a lot of time to get the parts to separate. Did you like the rear axle stand? I only have two axle stands which I want to use at the front end, so my friend Duncan took his chainsaw to a tree he had lying around in the garden and cut a chunk off it to hold up the back end. I have to say it also doubles as a coffee table and tool bench while I'm working on the car!
Your car is coming along nicely with the grille etc. I like the higher profile that you have with the aerodynamics behind the headrest. Where did you get that from? I'm hoping to get the diff off tomorrow morning before the rain arrives. Fingers crossed as the forecast is for rain until at least Thursday up here.

Car Photographer - I hope you get the rear arch mountings sorted.

And just remember the grille isn't "wonky", it is "hand crafted".

Good luck, Paul.

PS
Old Jock - Please start a separate build thread for your car, as it makes it much easier for others to follow your progress.

Especially, as you appear to be doing a full "nut & bolt" restoration.

As the old saying goes... "Two build threads are better than one."

I hope you are going to take some photos! Did you take photos of the "new" mudguard supports? I'd be very interested to see how they are made. I'm still waiting for my kit to arrive - the body won't be ready until 24th of June and then it can be collected. I've bought lots of bits to rebuild the front and rear suspension so once I have de-rusted everything I can get started on that and I'll post more photos on my thread. Hope you have a good day out with your T48.
