Careful there. Adding poly resin to get a creamy mix with the filler will cause it to be more brittle. A little goes a very long way. Another reason to cover it with a layer of matt or light fiberglass cloth.

Cheers for the tips mate, sorry to ask a daft question but.............when you say you add a layer of chopped strand over thick areas of filler, do you mean that you apply a thick layer of filler and then while it is still wet lay on a sheet of fibreglass matting?

Let the filler cure and then laminate a single layer of matt or cloth
over the filler. Sand and fill any imperfections with a very light skim with filler.

I got the rear lights all wired in on Thursday night (see pic 42) and got the rear arch vents cut out (see 39) and shaped and smoothed (see 40). After taking advice on my filling I got some chopped fibre filler on the rear arches, still a bit rough and ready but the shape is starting to come together (see 36).

Well after hoping to get a lot done this weekend, I didn't get that much done. We had a bbq on Friday evening that turned into a bit of a wild one! We finally got to bed at 5 in the morning, so when I did finally get up on Saturday I was WAY too hungover to work on the car.

Today saw me getting a bit done, I put the seat belts back in and the trim around the seat belt mounts and seal around the rear of the door - I wanted to see how the door / window seal is going to join together. Then I realised I hadn't made or fitted the plate for the join between the roof and windscreen frame at the top of the A pillar. So I got a template made out of cardboard, and then got 2 plates made up. Just need to get them fitted now. I had a bit of a play about with the front too, and I think it is really starting to come together (44).

I am thinking of cutting the old rear panel out and going with the '1 boot area' idea. Does anyone have any experience of Mr MOT / IVA inspector after having done this (good or bad).

I cut it out on my gto just glassed in around all the edge bit of carpet lining it was never questioned

So back to doing it the old fashioned way.......

The pixies dropped me some goodies off today (pic 45). And as we all know, when goodies arrive, you have to play with them, so out with the steel rule, pencil and then the drill and file and Hey Presto (pic 46). Cut the old flange and filler neck (pic 47) from the filler pipe (48) and got everything put back together. Needs a bit of work and tidying in the boot area, as I want to re-use the original protective plate to hide everything and to keep it neat and tidy. But that will have to wait.

If I click on the attachment "45.jpg" then I can see both the photo and the following "address":

Even if this is a slightly long winded approach, I hope it helps.

I use photobucket it's free and easy I have the app on my phone to upload directly from there.
