Default Chrome petrol filler cap???

Anyone got any ideas where to get a chrome filler cap from, problem is not sure where the original black scruffy one came from. The o/d is3" & the i/d 1.5" with a large slot in the filler neck & a smaller slot opposite to facilitate locking. My car is a relatively old build so any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Jools

Most of the Cabrio's used a modified fuel neck from a sierra, the black knurled edge caps used were often painted to match the car.

If you take measurements off the one you have or post a picture I can compare it to the sierra setup on my cabrio.

Most of the suppliers do "Monza" or "Aston" filler caps, which are in chrome and add a touch of bling to the car.

Hi Jools

Sorry but I can't help you, it doesn't look anything like my Sierra fuel neck, not sure what yours is off but it doesn't look like most of the Cabrio ones I've seen.

From your pics, it looks as if the neck has a flexible rubber hose attached to it which will (I assume) lead to the tank.

If this is the case, why not ditch the sierra filler altogether, an fit something along the lines of this:

http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/2...Flange_AFLA212

You'll need a lockable insert:

http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/category/...,b.html?page=2

And then top it off with a shiny cap:

http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/2...za_Cap_MON2ALP
http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/2...s_Aston_AST234

Obviously you'll need to get ones that all fit together, and a flange that has an outlet a similar size to the sierra one.

Expensive? A bit. Is it worth it? Yup:

I have thought about this route, I did it on my previous kit car (Cobra).
I may well do it if I keep it long term but I was looking for a quick (inexpensive) bling up. Thanks for the reply.

Excuse my ignorance, but is your car already sva'd / iva'd and on the road?

If so then have a look on eBay for a triumph Spitfire fuel filler cap as I think it might be just what you're after!
I had one on my Sammio and they are a lovely solid bit of kit. You can also pick them up for about £15 and then it's just a case of adapting the pipes to join it to your tank.

Yes it's roadworthy & registered. I'm just rebuilding it over the winter after having all the panels re-sprayed. I'll check out the spitfire angle, thanks.
