What a difference a day makes!
I got by long awaited bulkhead back this morning. It had been to a fabricator to get a new foot fitted (I know, lazy me) and whilst there, had a dose of the ol' powder coat. Within an hour it was fitted and looking nice, however, has anyone fitted the modified oil filter on their car and could they please let me know what angle it actually fits without fouling anything?:
Swiftly followed by the floors and pans
A bit of fighting got the frame fitted. In my case, the only issue was the rear feet were a little too close together so rather than pin one down and pull the other into line, possibly bringing the rest of the frame out of line, I slotted each of the holes by a little and that did the trick. The rear outrigger feet were just about right but for some reason (Probably my newly fitted outrigger dimensions), the front tabs needed some assistance to go around the bulkhead (Straps did the trick). Anyhoo, it's now on, tight and looking the way it should. The sharp eyed amongst you may notice I fitted the top radiator hose too:
Satisfied with that, the tank went in after a pleasant chat with Gary as to positioning, swiftly followed by the Pedals and Master cylinders with the remaining hydraulic pipes. Nearly time to stop for the day but I just had to get the steering column on and trial fit the seat to get the final pictures of the day:
It's really starting to feel like a Sammio now
Tomorrow's tasks include fitting the loom and finishing the steering column brackets and I'm sure at some stage, the obligatory photo of me sitting in it grinning like a loon

Is it the screw on oil filter adapter you've got?

I've got one on mine and looking at it from the left side of the car it's at the 8 o'clock position.
I can get a pic if that'll help?

Andy , it may be of interest to know that we have finally got ourselves organised here and sorted out my new laminator making the bodies in his own facility....the frames are also going to be made by the guys who did my Porsche tubework....so from next week , both Spyder and Cordite will be made off site and collection will still be from us here.....Its going to cost me a little extra per kit but gives me a lot of extra room to get things tidied and sorted...Upstairs will be just for laying up smaller items and kit storage ..Hoping to keep a few in stock soon....
Anyhow , the point is , I know you all love the kit number game , we have made over a 100 now but I have lost track ......more disciplined with the Cordite hopefully !!
So your car is the only example that will have frame made in house and body made off site ( nearly said out house ! ) a piece of trivia for you !!

Wow, that's all looking very tidy indeed!
How're you going to fill your cooling system- have you got a header tank hidden somewhere out of shot?

Yes, I've gone on the lines of Dave's in having a header tank to be fitted on the bulkhead. Not fitted in the photos yet as the position I want it will be covered by the shell's overlap.

just a thought. as the Sammios are being registered as such by DVLA, is there any search facility within their system that could pull all registered Spyders?

Today, as it wasn't actually pouring down on me I managed to get the target jobs done. First was the loom:
which I've modified to terminate front and back in a six way connector:
so I can build 'sub looms' for the lighting circuits.
The steering column is fitted:
And I'm still pondering the oil filter clearance. It seems the logical place for it being at around the 8 o clock position, is negated by a long oil pressure relief valve. If anyone has overcome this, I'd be glad to hear how:
Another question... I have Stromberg 150CDSE carbs fitted which are usually linked together by a balance pipe going into a T joint and onward into the rocker cover. The Vitesse normal set up is as I have currently with the manifold joined to rocker cover. Which would be the best way to go? Blank off the manifold and use the balance system or blank the balance pipes to the carbs?

To plum or not
Hi AndyP57,
looking jealously lovely. Lovely work all round, especially the "hand crafted foot" ;-) Regards DVLA Records, they have the search facility, but will not pass the information to anyone with the possible exception of Gary as the creator, but ONLY if it were for a safety related issue. Regards The carbs, in their day they could be a swine to keep balanced, so in my humble opinion, I would keep the manifold system as it is, and just link the two carb breather pipes with a tight pipe that won't allow an air leak. If anyone knows differently, please speak up as I would certainly never intentionally pass on bad advice, but can certainly say we bypassed them in the 'old days' and blocked off the rocker cover breather to aid better running.
As the actress said to the bishop "best suck it and see" lol

Hi Andy,
Regarding the oil filter. I use a Fram Oil Filter PH2874 for my gt6 mk1, which has the same engine. This oil filter is much shorter so you have more clearance.
Cheers, edwin
