Zagmad, thanks, I Think the front could be done on a z3 with either the swb 250 narrow/short, per wca or the 275 with recessed headlights. The big challenge for me is how to do the back half and get the narrowing in width and short drop of the round version vs the more gradual one of the cut off version. Which the 275 on the z3 or mx250 on mx5 have. The porche coupe rear has more like the drop i need, but has a humped profile for the engine, so needing a rework of the whole central section top to bottom as you look from the back.

Might be worth getting pics of all the profiles of all the available models that could be contenders and see if they can be scaled down to meet your vision. The round back has a deep line flowing front to back

Would a mr2 roadster be a good start to make a classic Porsche 912e replica. Giving it a boot would make it more usable. Specially like the mr2 1993 shape it had its engine then a kind of boot space then the bumper.

Seeing the E Type creation reminds me

Having several XJS cabriolets hanging around and having chopped the body up on the SE5 to form the G46. It then occurred to me that the rear top half of the SE5 along with the tail gate grafted onto the XJS would make a great Eventer type car.

I did a drawing of this but do not know how to post it anyone fancy doing a photo-shop of the beast I describe

An XJ-S Eventer style car would be great. A couple of months ago there was an Aston DB7 'shooting brake' style, fibre glass body for sale on Ebay. I believe this was based on a Scimitar body.


This approach using the majority of an XJ-S could be a wonderful approach. I am all ears on this suggestion....

Rusty with poor electrics, I had 2 when they were current, wouldn't dream of trying to do anything with one. Your would have to cut it about which would mean an Iva, would be a nightmare.
Scimitar would be a much better starting point.

I know what you mean, but little cutting the body and none of the chassis if you based it on a cabriolet all the body rigidly stays because of the roll over bar.

The whole reason I scrapped the SE5 is that it was just to narrow the XJs (sorted) would make a great grande router or eventer and look a lot better than the Lynx effort.

What started me down this road is some chap from the sixties used an XK150 with a hatch back to tow his race car looked fantastic

XK-8 convertible base as used by Mrs Woss above is clearly doable.

They're probably more easily available, reliable(?) and reasonably priced (for a sound car with MOT) than the old XJ-S these days. Lose the nasty 22" wires and Silver Cross side trims, glaze the rear side panels and you could achieve a pretty good V8 auto gentleman's shooting brake look on a budget.

No chassis on an XJS so any cuts in theory would need an IVA inspection.
A half decent XJS convertible is 10K, would you really spend that sort of money to cut it about to make an estate car?
It's a bit like giving Liz Hurley to a cosmetic surgeon to make a Susan Boyle look-a-like, never mind, no accounting for taste!!

You have a point there! with the Liz Hurley reference no argument. However Toad (towed) has the right description "shooting brake" not "estate car".

Unfortunately, I think most Jaguar Shooting Brake conversions look fugly.

Although my eyes haven't quite recovered from seeing this "not quite factory standard" Mark IX on Google images.



Personally, I'd pick the XFR estate, albeit in BRG and with some traditional looking wheels to tone it down a bit.
