Default Fuel Sender

As I head into the final stages of the re-wiring, I have come across a small problem.

I'm using the Marlin supplied fuel sender, and am attempting to connect it into an E30 loom. Whilst I think I understand that the low fuel warning light will never work as I don't think the Marlin sender has such a facility, it would be nice to get the actual gauge reading fairly accurately.

Adem had labelled two wires (purple/green and green/white) as fuel sender. When I connected up the green/white one this morning, the dash dial went all the way up to full (when clearly the tank was mostly empty).

Is there a simple fix for this, like adding in a resistor or something??
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks, Tim
