Oh do indulge me, please? I realise the issue of IVA and the Sammie has been covered, but the question I was asking relates to the peculiarities of chassis on the Scimitar.

If you re-body a Z3, IVA not required.
If you re-body a Z3, but remove the windscreen surround - IVA is required as it is deemed part of the structure.

If you re-body a Spitfire, Herald etc. , the screen comes off with the body so it is not part of the chassis - IVA not required.

On the SS1 however, the screen IS attached to the chassis..... and therein lies my question! Not trying to declare that a car is illegal, just interested in the interpretation in this circumstance.

The SS1 has a chassis so the screen can be removed .

Scroll through this and you will see that the windscreen surround is part of the fibreglass structure......and you will see how much roll reinforcement it provides.....

Only if you strip a Scimitar SS1 will you know how its constructed!!

The windscreen is part of the body tub which is a one piece construction made-up of the windscreen/bulkhead/floor pan.
This whole assembly can be unbolted from the chassis.
If you take the time and trouble to look at the link below (thanks Oxford 13/60) this whole assembly can clearly be seen, windscreen in place, being lifted over the chassis and the chassis can also be clearly seen with-out the body tub assembly fitted.

http://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/viewtopic.php?t=1510

In this construction I chose to use the body tub with-out the windscreen surround because it makes the build quicker, easier and stronger. Even the original floor carpet can be re-used

So IMHO, no IVA required

Cool - thanks for the info!

False confidence in the strength of the windscreen surround when I had my 2 then!!!

Could be very tempted by this....

The build should be "on the road" in a few weeks.
When it is your more than welcome to call-in and have a test drive.

So much love for my little SS1 :-)

As you can see from the pictures, with a standard factory roll hoop behind and the windscreen surround (which has a couple of steel tubes inside, running to the chassis) in front - it held up remarkably well and allowed my son to walk away unharmed.

Personally, I will always insist on a roll hoop in SS1s (and in fact we amended our competition championship regulations to include this requirement for roadgoing class) but it would ruin the lines of an open car. Perhaps a couple of hoops behind the seats would be better than nothing?

This is the original build blog for the car recently sold at auction .
I think I still have a few photos of the car when first finished/sold.
It's nice to see how the car has changed.

It,s a pity photo-bucket removed all the photos.

This is the car when first on-the-road.
The two LED's under the filler cap are extra brake lights.

Not much changed only removable hump and the decals.
