Default Skippy Ii

Well here we go again. My starting point this time is a locost chassis one of the original Ron Champion's same track and very close to the Herald wheel base, thats the easy bit, since sticking a deposite down with Gary a while back I've worn out my tape measure "will it fit" NO so I've got a large supply of the very thin disc's the cockpit will have to be moved back 17 inches and the bonnet lenghtened 24 inches. Because I'm going to be hacking the shell about alot Gary is letting me take on the original Cordite body plug that doesn't have doors and the same for the Lancia bonnet both buried at the back of the workshop hence it's going to take a week to dig them out.....

I just played with the Blue print to get some proportion, mmm I like it alot.

Poor old Skippy is now outside under a tarp as the rolling chassis is in the garage on ramps and stands and levelled up.
It's all 1300 Escort running gear which will be rebuilt and tuned to do a few speed events next year in the less than 1.4 road class. I'll still be doing bits n bobs on Skippy as having driven her for a while now I know what I'm going to change and add which will be on sunny days now....

Looks like a challenge Pat. Will it be road legal or race only?

AND SO IT BEGINS.....

I wondered when you were going to post this up Pat.....

I like the way this is going ....we are finding out we can resurrect old Spartan chassis recently , now a Locost is getting the beauty treatment ..( no offence to any locost lurkers... )

Mike is about to start his own 'long nose' build soon as well ...so things are looking interesting on the special front.

That old plug body and bonnet can be dug out anytime this week Pat , if you fancy another little trip to Chez Sammio ?

Another interesting build to watch progress. What are you planning to do Sprints, Hillclimbs? Wiscombe Park is a great hill to drive and not far from you. Have you competed before or is this something new for you? Good luck with the build and look forward to seeing it in action.

I'm planning on doing Gurston and some sprints in mine. I used to compete in an FF, and this is my "kids are now grown-up enough for me to disappear at the weekends" return to racing.

Andy, I'd forgotten Newark, I'm collecting my stuff from Gary on Saturday so it'll be Sunday and in a tintop as the weather don't look great.
Gary, if we did that Mel and Liz would say it was deliberate and we we'd never be allowed to even utter "kitcar rebody or Sammio" again, but it would be fun doing it. Regads PAT

Yep no problem, he says as its lashing down, I've been trying to visit Gary (mulberry) and yourself must get my act together. I've done a couple of long stints in Skippy over to Poole upto Shepton Mallet with a firm ride and bare seats I get out and my joints still work, my works Corsa I need a ten minute walk to get my legs fuctioning.......

Default ouch

this glassfibre can be sharp stuff, still any who har to that. Went over to Poole to collect a well used and scuffed Cordite plug and Lancia bonnet last mention of Cordite as she'll quiet special so I'm going with SAMMIO SPRINT (mmm a dolly engine and box). I can't find my camera at the mo. But I've got a couple of tape measures, first job is to fabricate a couple of inner cills which will take up the gap/difference twixt the Triumph and Locost chassis width (400mm each side) it will strengthen the shell once I cut the cockpit out to move it back 400mm or so it'll be trial and error on that job, so after tea break it's my first bash at making the inner cill mould, wooden then a bit of glassing. Then find the camera to get some pic's of the story so far. Didn't fancy Newark for one day 8 hour round trip..Pat

Hi Pat, Good luck with this special build. looking forward to seeing progress. You did well not to bother with Newark. it was horrible weather and to be frank, not a lot to see.

Default Been awhile

Just a couple of pics before the body comes off for further engine and running gear stuff to be done, the nose is up a bit as hers engineless.
The bonnet hatch has been cut out, and more fibreglass to be done with the body off and up side down, hope the pics work! Pat
