A way of showing complex numbers on a graph.

The left-right direction is for the real part of the complex number

The up-down direction is for the imaginary part of the complex number

Example: Here the complex number

• 3 units along (the real axis),

• and 4 units up (the imaginary axis).

The left-right direction is for the real part of the complex number

The up-down direction is for the imaginary part of the complex number

Example: Here the complex number

**3 + 4i**is shown• 3 units along (the real axis),

• and 4 units up (the imaginary axis).
