Default Fuel Sender

As I head into the final stages of the re-wiring, I have come across a small problem.

I'm using the Marlin supplied fuel sender, and am attempting to connect it into an E30 loom. Whilst I think I understand that the low fuel warning light will never work as I don't think the Marlin sender has such a facility, it would be nice to get the actual gauge reading fairly accurately.

Adem had labelled two wires (purple/green and green/white) as fuel sender. When I connected up the green/white one this morning, the dash dial went all the way up to full (when clearly the tank was mostly empty).

Is there a simple fix for this, like adding in a resistor or something??
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks, Tim

You have to match the gauge with the sender unit. Depending on make some gauges read full on low resistance and others vice versa. Check with your multimeter the value from your sender and check the resistance for your gauge you could have a look at the VDO data site to check the values.
Sometimes you can't just plug and play.

I think that is a very good interpretation of my(in a nut shell) fuel gauge/sender problems that may be incurred.

Thanks for your help guys.
They have a Mk 3 version available so have gone for that one. Seems pretty straightforward to wire in and calibrate. Will be sure to post progress!

Well the Gauge Wizard Mk3 arrived this morning, fitted and programmed in about 10 minutes! Seemed too easy, but appears to work perfectly.

Should be able now to just velcro it out of sight.
Thanks again guys.
