Default Electrical help required

Anyone following my build will know I have put the electrics off for as long as possible - and then some!
I've now got on with it, but run into a minor issue. I wired the indicators up as per the Premier Wiring loom instructions and both sides worked.

However, I have now added a single LED warning bulb to the dash, and now I get all four bulbs flash when I indicate Left, or Right. I understand the problem is the Premier wiring loom must take the dash live supply before the outside indicator lights, rather than after. Then when I take the two separate lives to the dash bulb, it feeds back through the other side indicator circuit.

From the little I know about diodes, would one of these prevent the current passing back down the opposite circuit. If so, that should solve my problem?

If this does work, what diode do I need?

If I recall correctly, I had an issue with my indicators:

I hooked up a bog standard 1N4001 as per Chris's recommendation, and it worked a treat.

Hi Mike, I assume you've gone for a single dash light for haz and either indicator side? I went for separate ones for either side and then both flash for haz which complicates things further. I'll send you the diagrams for what I did via email but if you need a diode I've got loads of 1N4001 spare from when I was sorting my charging lamp out so can send one if you need it.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!

I collected a pack of 10 1N4002 diodes from RS Components today for the grand sum of 35p. Fitted two of them - didn't know which way round they needed to be, and they worked first time!!

Thanks Goo/Chris for the direction to the 1N4000 range.

Now:
Indicate left = left only indicators + warning lamp
Indicate right = right only indicators + warning lamp

Hazards on = both indicators + warning lamp .

Whoooohoooo!!!

Its hard when you don't know what you are doing!
But you guys make it easier.

Many thanks to all who offered help on this forum and elsewhere.

Very grateful
Mike

On a roll now...........

I have dip beam on with main beam, but not the other way round - marvellous things these diodes!

Also changed the rear fog light to only come on when the main lights are on - my Premier Wiring loom had it so that it could be switched on with only the sidelights on, which is an IVA fail - (thanks Jason for highlighting issue).

Courtesy lights under the dash now wired in.

In fact I think that is the wiring connection completed - provided it all works when its plugged together.

Now I (just!) need to tidy up the general mess of wires behind the dash.
