Default E30 325 alternator

My alternator has gone phut. The 325 alternators are pretty expensive. Does anyone know if I can fit one from another engine, 318 or320 perhaps, without any mods. I dont need the stonking 90amps that the 325 alternator provides.

Cheers, Robin

It may be the regulator or the diode pack, you can replace them yourself. Try www.jcrsupplies.co.uk for spare parts.

Robin,

Take a look at my build log on Flickr

I've just successfully got a light weight denso alternator running on my sportster. It cost about £90 plus another 20 odd for a light weight ali 6V pulley. It did require a bit of bracket fabrication so that may put you off

Thanks Morris

That Denso alternator does look good, but I want to do the job with the minimum of hasssle so I think I will stick to an "original".

I finally found a remanufactured one on ebay (From a 320 but I think that just means its 60A raher than 90A). And at least it has been remanufactured by the supplier so I can always shout at them if it is no good :-)

Cheers, Robin
