Default Making a perspex windscreen or where to get one for a sammio Spyder

Hi all,

I am in the process of building an early 1960's Special which is using a Microplas Mistral bodyshell and a late 50's Buckler Mk17 chassis. I am using a Sammio Spider screen base but need to either make a replica screen myself or try to get an original one from somewhere.

Can anyone help on either of these above mentioned subjects please. I guess that the screen should be made of Perspex or some other equivalent material, and obviously be heated into a buck of the same shape as the surround.

I look forward to any suggestions that anyone may have too assist me.

Rangerboy1963 - Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, I've already given away my Sammio Cordite perspex screen to another builder.

But here is a photo of them so you can see they were supplied "flat".

There was no need to heat them, the shape allowed sufficient bending to fit.

( The Spyder screen is a slightly different shape, but worked in the same way. )

Hope that helps and good luck, Paul.

I made my own out of makrolon which is shatter proof and uv stable, if you use perspex it will discolor in the sunlight. Check out my posts on this page on http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...t=4861&page=21 which may give you an idea of what to do.

Swfty, the missing key information is the thickness of screen and side screens.

I've gone with enough material to make two screens in 3mm from a local supplier for £35, i didn't make the side's as i don't want them. The reason i made two was to keep a spare for the future and it was a lot easier to cut out the spare now once i had the template sorted.

Default Perspex (or similar) screen thickness!

Hi guys,

Thank you for the responses so far, very much appreciated.

Could I please just add a couple of comments please, what would be the thickness that one is sup[posed to use on the screen, I've seen 3mm mentioned in this thread but though that about 5mm was the norm, Over to you guys to put me straight please as I am in your hands on this one.

And what supplier does one get this from, I guess a Google search is in order for a supplier local to Bracknell.

Regards

Mark

Mark - I checked one of my Sammio Cordite side screens and it a shade under 4mm thick.
( I'm recycling it into a wind deflector for my rear view mirror. )

Hope that helps, Paul.
