Default McCoy the mini based kit car transformation

This is a link to my build diary so far for my McCoy mini based kit car, I am in the process of removing the old BMC 1275 unit and running gear and refitting it with a Honda B16A2 unit and up dated running gear, some of the original parts will be kept and modified to suit the new power train other parts for the build have been modified to suit the available space within the car.

Hope you enjoy the work so far.....

Default Can't view the pix

Without registering on yet another forum I can't view the images. I am registered on so many forums, it's getting out of hand. I would have loved to see the pix.

Hi Ed, I was going to re submit all the diary onto here but I would need a week to transfer it, what I could do is place all the photo's onto Flickr so the could be viewed from there, I will have to look at my old account and see if it is still valid...

About 100 McCoy's were made and 3 McIvoy's, they were an estate version, I have a list of ones that I have found either pictures or registrations of about 58 of them.

PS:- All the photos are now available on Flickr Link on previous post...

Default VIN plate

Just a quicky, I have had this car for years now in various states of rebuild and it will hopefully get finished this year but, I can't find any sign of a VIN plate or any sign of one ever being fitted or anywhere signs of the VIN number embossed onto the shell, the car is on a Q plate and I have the V5 which is in order so the car has obviously been registered originally with DVLA so I am at a loss, did they have to be fitted on kit cars back in the eighties?

Vin plates , probably not in the80's. In 94 if I remember right, you built it, someone came to look at it and if you could convince them about the source of the bits gave you a number which you were supposed to stamp on the chassis.
Then insure it with chassis number and off for an MOT. A bit more paperwork and the V5 came back with a reg number. With a local office to sort out problems. Wasn't life simple then?

Added some updates to the link above if anyone is interested, decided on projector hi/lo headlights and modifying the wings so they follow the lines of the car, in the process of making adjustable sub frames for the lights, I have made all the adjusters and pivot bearing faces, need to get some card to make up the shapes for the s/s framework sort that then cut and bend to shape, once I have them fitted I can then complete the wings.

Wow that thing is going to shift with that engine in. I fitted an allegro engine into a gtm in about 1992 and that felt scary fast and enjoyed letting the rear overtake the front at will. Mcoys where always an acquired taste to look at but I think you may be onto something with the light revamp. I also like the high tech braided brake hose disappearing into the weedy drums looks like my Jeep set up. Ed

Yeah it should improve the looks no end, was going to fit discs at the back but was worried about over braking. Can't wait to get it done for a couple of reasons, first my son has uprated his Rx7 FD's turbo and expects to get 400BHP from it so it will be fun to have him chase me round the track and secondly as soon as its finished I can get it out of the garage and I can then buy myself the Aston Martin V8 Vantage I have promised myself, best get it finished...

Headlight brackets now made, just need to fabricate the sub-frames and modify the wings a bit more so they fit, photo's updated on link above.

Unfortunately, I had a technical problem trying to use a photo from your Flickr account.

So I have used a random McCoy photo from the web as a worked example.

First of all you need to find/copy the image address of the photo, which will look something like this.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...oy_kit_car.jpg

Then you need to add [ img ] before and [ /img ] afterwards, but without the spaces inside the brackets.

So the code for the photo will now look like this.

[ img ]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/ff/McCoy_kit_car.jpg/220px-McCoy_kit_car.jpg[ /img ]

And if you remove the spaces, it will appear like this.

Many photo sharing sites will provide you with the complete IMG code if you use a "Share" option, or something similar.

Hope that helps and good luck, Paul.

PS
By adding the IMG code to one of your previous links I get this...

Hmmm doesn't like taking images from flickr then will have to try somewhere else to put my pictures, I copied your link and that didn't work either ( [ img ]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/ff/McCoy_kit_car.jpg/220px-McCoy_kit_car.jpg[ /img ] )
