Default Oil Level Sensor

Guys,

Oil level sensor - Do you need to connect this up? I ask as I believe this is just used to illuminate a light on the Beemer overhead check panel... That and the fact that when I removed mine from the sump I noticed that one of the mounting flanges has sheared off at some point (it was so covered in cack and oil you couldn't tell until you lifted it out and you had two seperate pieces in your hand!)

If you don't need it, I'll just knock up an alu cover to bolt over the hole in the sump. If I do need one, I'll just have to get another.

There are 3 connections for various oil related sensors. The one for the dash light that you will need is the one on the exhaust side, so no you wouldnt need the level one in the sump.

Richard will be able comment better on that as he did the wiring. He's away at the moment but will point him over here when he's back.

Default Oil sensor

As Patrick says - the one in the sump is not needed - it is only used with the BMW check panel and has no effect on the engine management unit.

Thanks Martin. I won't bother replacing it then, and I'll just fabricate a cover for it.

Cheers,

Jason
