Default Cat d

Hi there ,

Wonder if anyone can answer this question for me ? i know of kit car that's been a insurance write off and is becoming a cat d , But would only cost a small amount of money to put back on road . What's stopping you from taking i.d plates off saying you've re built it and re SVA / IVA the car for a new reg ?
P.s I know nothing about cars or this subject so I apologise in advance for being stupid .

Exclamation

STOP...this is illegal. No different than taking VIN plates off a regular car and swapping them.

IMHO - don't even think about it!!

Have a word with the VOSA to check the different categories. I'm not sure what categories you can repair, get inspected by VOSA and keep the same reg. But might be a possibility.

If it's only cat D then fix it and get it inspected, et voila back on the road as per normal.

If you do it any other way you WILL get a Q plate and have to spend 400+ on an IVA (and probably fail) then retest etc...

As bigrich said, messing with VIN plates is illegal so best not to do it

Cat D does not need an inspection, just apply for a new V5, £25
Cat C needs an inspection, it is only an inspection to comfirm the identity. It does not inspect repairs, cost £41.
