Hoi Mars,

Terrific! Seems to me that we both are finished at approx the same time.

Really nice work.

Hi Mars, Have you any more pictures of your boot/truck space and the way you have attached the boot lid and the humps. Best Regards Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for your message.

First of all, my build is a 2cv so a little different as compared to Herald version..
Beware when you cut out a large booth like I did. There is tension in the fiberglass body and once you cut it it can have a different fitting. So before doing so, make a frame underneath the boot and support the body as much as possible around the edges of the booth lid. Mine needs some adjustment but will be OK I think. Initially I tried to use the 2CV door hinges and mounted everything. However, it needed too much space for the hinge and I decided to try it with standard "house door" hinges.. That works very well and needs very little room.
Installing the hump is tricky as well because the 2nd hump I got (which I wanted to use for the left side) is identical as the right one and they are not symmetrical.. So one side will have a big gap which you need to fill up.
I first aligned it properly, drew a line for the cut out and then started cutting. It fitted quite well although I had to do some trimming and filling.

I really like the looks of the double hump and the car looks great when boot lid is opened. It also will be very practical, the opening is really big. The only real problem is that the headrest will touch the seats when you open the lid so you also have to hinge the seat of the headrest. I will hinge the headrest.

Let me know if you have some additional questions and I'm interested to see how it came out..

Default Update on 2cv sammio netherlands

Hello again fellow builders and Sammio enthusiasts,

its been over a year ago since I posted the last update on the 2cv Sammio project. I worked on and off on the project during this last year but some serious progress has been made I can say.

Let's start where I was - the body and frame were on the chassis, floor was ready as well as was the luggage compartment.

Hopefully I can upload some bigger size photos this time..

Default fixing body problems

Fixing last problems on body :
- Widening rear fenders (standard body is too narrow for wire wheels for 2CV)
- front fenders are curved inwards
- hood needed adjustment of the curve in order to follow the headboard curve
- roundness of wheel arches

And also constructed and fitted the scoop - made from the mould which I borrowed from Michiel which was his wife's vase I believe..
I was pleased with the result. The scoop was needed as I would not be able to close the bonnet..

Cheers,

Default some more body adjustments..

These adjustments have caused a lot of time (=delay), many liters of resin and $$$$$..
If I had known, would not have bought the body...

stitches at rear fender

fender not straight - bends to inside..

Default finally to body shop!

Some further serious modifications were needed to get a straight and solid bonnet. This needed to be done by a pro and he braced the bonnet very good and it feels very solid now. did add a few kg's...

He mounted the bonnet on the body and completely filled the gap and recut it in a very straight way.
Again also much filler necessary for straightening sides..

Default Batmobile 2CV?

When the first coats of matt black were applied I started to doubt the color I had chosen and maybe I just should leave it that way... it looked fantastic and also the body was super straight.

could not have imagined that the bodyshop was able to get such a great smooth and straight finish.

Default 2 CV in body shop

Now it really started to come together all that hard (and invisible) work. Still a lot of new filler and grinding, grinding and grinding...

The body shop did not have a professional paint booth but for sure a creative and smart painter and made his own paint booth!

To me this was most exiting part of the build.

Color is RAL 3004

shiny red (it will never ever looks as nice as this)

Bonnet and booth lid needed respray because of some drips and he missed a bit..

Default final assembly!

IMG_5417.jpg

Back in my garage I finally could start on the last jobs.
Still plenty of work to do - basically the whole interior had to be installed.

Also some electrical work still needs to be done as the turn signals do not yet work..

But it is really coming together and I'm very please with the color. My wife warned me not to paint it "midlife crisis red" and she was pleased to see this sort of 50ties era dark red.
I used a rubber profile (normally used on stairs steps) for the cockpit edges and mounted most of the chrome pieces.

Default Final assembly 2cv Sammio

I made a new grill from aluminum(which I still have to cut to size and install) which weighs less then half of the "doormat" that was provided originally with the kit.

Also had to paint the inside of the wheel arches and many other small jobs:

- Had a steering wheel adapter made for better steering position
- relocate the exhaust mounting point at the rear
- Test fit of first decalls
- mount the wire wheel adapters and wheels
- install anti roll bar on the rear

still lots of stuff to do before it is roadworthy..

New grill on the scale!

Default final pics of sammio 2cv

Here are the last pictures, taken last week before I went on vacation. Sorry but I just can't make 'm bigger. One size bigger and they go over the allowed max size. Must be a MAC problem..

Pininfarina was body supplier /designer of the original Lancia D24 on which the Sammio design was based on and decided to use their badge

IMG_5425.jpg

I have some roundels with the number 77 as this was the body number Gary Janes told me it is.

I'm not sure if I want to put them on as the car looks nice as is..

One last (major) issue to sort is the possibility of the wheels touching the inner wheel arches. i have already mounted an anti sway bar and stiffer springs but I want to keep the car as low as possible so need to find a ride height that will not give these problems. Maybe I will i have to come up with some sort of mechanical stop on the maximum sway of the suspension arm.

Before the car went to the paint shop I ran it and one of the wheels touched the wheel arch and need to prevent this from happening again.

I will keep you posted on further progress, I do expect to still ride it this summer.

Cheers for now,
Marcel

Hey Marcel,

Looks terrific!Even for me who don,t like red...

You know I am a great fan of the 2CV and a 2cv in this "dress"is irresistible for me.
So when you are back, come and drive with the few other dutch Sammio,s and have some fun.

Hope I see you soon,Rob
